How do you handle leftover groceries?

I am not going to ask a host to go shopping for me. However, I will add in private feedback that it would be nice for guests if they supplied basic condiments. I usually end up with a bag full of odds and ends when I am travelling, like, pepper, pasta, rice, seasoning and even a plastic strainer but having to buy a bottle of cooking oil every few days and using half an inch and then leaving it behind could easily be fixed if the host thought to supply the basics. I supply much more than the basics as there is little cost involved and it helps the guest have a positive experience.
