Hello to the great hosts on this site. I hope you guys can help me with this. I had some asian guest that stayed for 2 months and cooked a lot and I guess they cooked kimchi. Now the whole house has the smell. Any suggestions on how do I get rid of the kimchi smell in the house. It’s been a month since they left and the smell hasn’t disipated. Air fresheners are just slightly masking the odor. Thanks for any suggestions.
Please search the site for the many other posts on this exact topic. Like your bedbug post this is well covered territory. Sorry, it sounds like you have had nothing but bad luck. Luckily Covid19 should be solving all your problems soon. You will have plenty of time to repaint, air out and banish those bedbugs. Did you decide on do it yourself heat or professional treatment?
Put opened cans of coffee all over the place along with opened boxes of baking soda. They both absord smells. When I worked as a flight attendant, we used to put coffee bags in the bathrooms (hidden away in the supply panel). If you have carpeting, use Arm & Hammer carpet powder formulated for pet smells. It works well, I usually sprinkle it all over and let it sit overnight.
If you are on LPG, check you don’t have a leak. Had exactly the same problem, sauercraut / boiled cabbage we thought, also lifted boards to check for vermin, but turned out that the plumber who fitted the gas hob hadn’t properly tightened a compression nut.
I did do a search for kimchi, kim chi, and kitchen smells and got very limited results that actually offered remedies. I’m trying an option from google search: boiling water and vinegar mix, 1 cup water with 3 tablespoons of vinegar. Reasoning was that vinegar is acidic and odor is alkaline and odors would be neutralized. I’ll report back results.
I am a big fan of Ozium.
I just put shallow bowls of white vinegar throughout the house to remove odors. Even better if you can open up windows to air it out.
