LOLā€¦talking smack about olā€™ Athens GA, eh? Athens is a nice little town, but I donā€™t suppose itā€™s a tourist destination. However, if youā€™re going to a UGA football game, attending one of the annual events like AthFest and Twilight, or going to a wedding like Wesley, a house swap would be nice.

Personally, Iā€™m not a fan of UGA football and am rarely here on the weekends anyway (I live in Atlanta), but on game days, places here go for pretty big bucks.

I love Athens, GA and thatā€™s what Iā€™m referencing. One of my favorite small towns in America (Iā€™m from GA originally). Highly recommend a visit to all!

I would think you might have a lot of interest depending on the time of year. Most of my husbandā€™s family graduated with one degree or another from UGA. He was the outlier and left the state. Then he married a Yankee and it was all downhill from there.

I too have been a member of homeexchange.com for years. Havenā€™t utilized it as much as I had hoped, but only because we havenā€™t had the time and/or funds to travel that much. They have just been sold, so of course, it might change in the upcoming months.

It SO does!! We just spent 14days in an unreal beach house in Cape Town, that would have easily cost us $15k or more, being that it was HIGH season in Cape Town

Just a headsā€™ up on house swapping for those paying taxes in the US -
We have a vacation home that we rent out while we are not there, and we looked into house swapping - it sounded like a great idea. That is, until I looked into the US tax code. The IRS considers house swapping to be ā€œpersonal useā€, and it can significantly reduce the amount of expenses you are allowed to deduct, and therefore significantly increase the taxes you have to pay. I wonā€™t go into the details, but if anyone wants more information, message me.
