I just came across a new listing in my local area that is purely set up as a party venue. Is this allowed? don’t get me wrong, I’m not going to report the guy, I actually want to be able to offer the same thing. I’ve hosted 3 parties at my place in the past quarter, each time it was cos the guest asked if they could host a “small gathering” which meant a party with 20+ people. So I got them to pay me directly for using our party space (a very large space on our farm) and they still paid accomm via ABB. We even upsold one group and made pizzas for them at $10/pp .
edit: just looking at this guy’s reviews, he has been doing this for at least 3 years, he has 90 reviews for other listings. he now has 2 party listings that are new with no reviews.
I would potentially list the same thing, but don’t want to run afoul of ABB rules.
As usual with Airbnb, ambiguous. Sort of sounds like as long as it doesn’t cause a “disturbance”, i.e. there are no complaints, people can get away with it.
It also sounds like you’d be out of luck if there were damages or excessive cleaning you tried to claim on, because then it would be obvious that it was “disruptive”. And if you report that the guests broke your event rules or Airbnb’s, or caused damages, they will instantly suspend your listing, according to posts I have read from other hosts who’ve had this scenario.
“Where a listing is advertised as party or event friendly, we may suspend the listing until the violating content is removed. We may also ask the Host to update their listing to include an explicit rule stating that parties and events are not allowed.” (italics mine)
Thanks - this is useful! I’ve been thinking about allowing SMALL destination weddings in our gazebo and charging a large event fee. If I do, sounds like it would be risky offering that through AirBnB.
I’m not in the habit of ruining other people’s lives. This is a legit business offering, people can host parties on their properties, and he likely has his own insurance.
