Host cancels Asian women's airbnb

Well said Chris.

As you elude to, Its the whole build up of how it got to this stage and all the information we are not getting.

She did not have clear authorization for double the guests.
Should have paid through AirBnB at the supposed time the additional guests were discussed not discuss paying for them as she is driving up the mountain to the resort???

Too bad the host allegedly responded in that manner but what drove her to it?

According to the guest when she texted later to ask if two more friends and their dog could come the host allegedly said yes, but you have to pay more. The host does not send her a change request via the site as she should have. Was this bigoted host planning this ambush all along?

All the host had to do was submit a change request and ask the woman to accept it. In my rules I state that change requests must be accepted before check in. Or she simply could have declined to book an additional two people.

I’m not sure why you call the host a “seemingly rational human being.”

I would love to see the link to the news story from Santa Monica. I can’t seem to find it.

Right. The evidence is clear.

Actually, I changed my mind. We will probably never hear any more about this case. If in fact an airbnb host called a guest these names and cancelled for the reason of protect America from foreigners then she is off the platform and deserves to be.

Hello @Chris

We can’t be a 100% sure of whether it is true, an exaggeration or false.

On what basis are you saying ‘I am 100% sure it has been set up’.

Also she says in the video she had agreed in advance that the extra guests could come for an extra payment.

It also says under the video I think from memory it was made about a month after the visit.

I can’t imagine why anyone would put themselves and their possessions on youtube for the world to see with such a story, particularly as if @Robert_Dudley says she is a law student,…but who knows.

So @Robert_Dudley it’s acceptable for a host to be racist to a guest if ‘provoked’.

When she said cancelled, I presume she meant the host told them they couldn’t stay. If this is a true story, the host could easily have called Airbnb and said they were cancelling the booking because they were bringing guests who hadn’t been booked and paid for.

Did I miss the part of how the host just finds out that the guest is Asian?

Or did the host supposedly set the guest up by saying she could bring a couple of friends, only to cancel on purpose at the last minute?

I just love these stories where host version and guest version are completely different. Guest says the host gave permission for a couple of friends, and host says guest must be insanely high to think such a thing…lol.

Just did a bit more research on this story.

Quotes Airbnb on this saying the guest has their full support and the host has been removed.

100% sure it was fake eh @Chris  :frowning:

Her picture on Airbnb clearly shows she is Asian and now we see her last name is Suh.

I’m a little disappointed that Tami didn’t want to give her side of the story.

I have never, ever been racist to a guest or anyone else.

In what way do you see the host ‘as being pushed beyond breaking point’ All the guest did was notify the host that they were on their way and ask how much extra they should be paying for extra guests.

You should know there is no rationality to racism and bigotry.

You are defending this host by using words like ‘provoke’ ‘knowing just the right buttons to push’ when there is nothing in the story to substaniate your claims.

Wow @Chris - racism now down graded to ‘name calling’ and a host assaulting a guest - ‘unprofessional, but the guest had it coming’

Do explain your comment 'on one thing this host is right, these kind of “victims” are the reason that are persons like Trump, Le Pen, Wilders, Strache and Petry are getting more and more power.

In what world does experiencing racism and then complaining about it become a reason for people like Trump and Le Pen.

Are you staying we should stay at home and be grateful that we are allowed to live in the western world.:frowning:

This quote below is prior to your question.
I would encourage you to read it. It is all up to interpretation but it may answer your inquiry

Maybe she doesn’t want to harm her defence if this goes to court so Tami is laying low?!

The villagers are already descending with their torches lit looking for a lynching. It would be rational to lay low. Not that any of this has been rational so far!

She has plenty of defenders here and on the YouTube page. The woman who was discriminated against is willing to put her name, face, location to the accusations, and show a media member her phone. Some people wouldn’t believe her no matter what evidence was offered.

At least their listings were removed.

No it doesn’t @MaryJO

I wanted to know why @Robert_Dudley feels racism is acceptable if someone is provoked and what he feels was provocative about a a guest calling up to confirm arrival and ask for the costs for the extra guests the host had (according to the guest) agreed.

@MaryJO I am sorry you feel standing up against racism is ‘descending with torches looking for a lynching’

I spent a lot of time researching the story before coming down on the side of believing there were elements of truth to the guests story.

BNB wouldn’t have been publicly quoted saying they were working with the guest and had banned the host if there hadn’t been an issue.

I agree with everything you’ve said so far… but not this! I truly believe Airbnb would say anything to give themselves a positive PR spin, whatever the real story is

(And I do believe this is the real story. Not disagreeing with you there)

I think we’ll need to agree to differ on this point  @Gardenhost

My thinking is that by coming out in support of the guest and saying they have banned the host, they are implicitly confirming this happened. I would have thought they would run any statement on this sort of situation by their legal team before coming out publicly on this, as they would know that the host could sue them for defamation if it was untrue. If they were just looking for good PR they would have brought up their policy around racism, say they take allegations seriously and are investigating.

Or at least this is how things happen in global organisations based here in the UK when it comes to their brand management/PR, (I say this having headed up a few)

Looks real to me. Guest has first and last name. The Host is banned from Airbnb without even want to say anything. If the host is injustice, they will definitely come out public yelling and screaming.
