Host cancellation procedures

Airbnb for camping.

Just taking quick look at that site, it has some good features. For instance, on the homepage, you can click on “Available for tonight”, “Available this weekend”, etc.
Then it takes you to the page to enter your search location up top, but each of those pages consist of articles about their policies, and what I especially like is that it includes general expectations for guests.

Maybe consider renting the camper out on a site that rents out campers and RVs instead of “stays”. I have a good friend that does this with a motorhome he bought. He doesn’t have the same need to have it himself at short notice, but campers and RVs need rather frequent repairs that can leave them unusable for several days. The site that he rents through can offer alternatives to customers that have reservations when repairs and maintenance are needed.

Hip Camp may be an option worth looking into, sort of AirBnB for campers/camping spots. Not sure what the cancellation policies are, but easily searched.
AirBnB is going to ding you any time you cancel. They’re much more guest friendly than they are willing to go to bat for the hosts. Doesn’t sound like Air would be the best fit for the camper, though.

I almost wish I had a campsite or camper to rent, I like the looks of that hipcamp website so much. (Of course I have no idea what it’s like to deal with the platform and haven’t read through all their policies).

Their “Hipcamper Standards” outlines the things all hosts would want their guests to do- read everything in the listing before asking questions, review the house rules, book for the correct number of people, check whether pets are allowed, be responsible for your own safety, communicate with your host, print out directions, make sure your vehicle is suitable for the road conditions, dispose of all garbage where instructed by the host or pack it out with you, etc.

And best of all is what they end that section with:

"Leave it better.

Hipcamp’s most important value is to ‘leave it better.’ As a Hipcamper, this means making sure you’re respecting your Host’s land and rules at all times, and doing your best to ensure you leave the property and community as you found it or—ideally—even better."

If only Airbnb presented guests with this sort of info and guidance right on the page where the guest starts their search. Wouldn’t that be nice.

Hip Camp’s a pretty cool site, primarily for hosts such as @Farminfeller. Usually a farm/ranch where guests can bring campers, tent camp or a lot of them offer campers, teepees or glamping tents. You should check it out!

Sans the overreaching rules & fees of Air. From the ones I’ve looked into, it seems that you’re communicating with the property owner. I’ve got friends who’ve used it a few times, & were quite happy.
