Guest Left early due to power outage, should I offer refund?

We had a guest check out a day early due to a power outage in the area. Would you offer to refund the one night they didn’t use or just chalk it up to guests decision to leave?

how long was the power out?

Based on your post and not knowing how long the power was out I would say “no.”

I did a quick search “hotel lost power refund” and found that most will not offer a refund. If the room is still available the reservation is still valid. Unless you did something to cut the power (i.e. not pay your bill) how can the guest hold you responsible and expect a refund?

Maybe just a reduction.

I would expect if the Guest contacts AirBnb they will receive a full refund.

The power was out for about a day. I don’t blame her for leaving as this meant no water as well as we have an electric well pump. I’m considering refunding her the day she didn’t use.

I would refund. Even if it’s out of your control I think it’s the right thing to do.

I would refund 1 night

Thanks for the advice everyone. I refunded 1 night. The guest said it wasn’t necessary, but it felt like the right thing to do.

I like to think that I wouldn’t have refunded but I probably would
I hope that they leave you a great review.
