Hi guys,
can I have your opinion on this one.Guest booked last night for two people, never asked about a couch and now wants bedding for a couch. The couch is available if guest books for three or four and I charge for it.
Another thing is I do not live nearby so it would take some time to get there and back home.
What would you do?Thanks in advance
If it were me, I would tell the guest where to find the extra bed linens.
I booked an AIrBnB last year for my daughter and myself. Only one bed in the place so I brought a sleeping bag and sheets for myself for the couch so my daughter wouldn’t have to put up with my snoring lol… Host was okay with it.
I am with Ellen. As long as they aren’t trying to sneak in more people.
I do not have extra sheets there.I used to have but I do not anymore, only pillows and duvet. As you mentioned, some guests were sneaking in more people.
If I were you I would bring them the extra sheets. I assume that your listing shows the couch as a place where guests may sleep and you don’t say that you only permit guests to sleep on the couch if there are three or four people staying. If my assumptions are correct, it is reasonable for your guests to request extra linens so that they can sleep on the couch.
If you list the couch as a sleeping area in your description you need to have linens for it.
Thank you guys! I will provide them sheets this time and I have to specify that sheets for sofa are only upon request.
It is strange and hard. I have been really puzzled by people and how they arrange themselves. I have had comforters off a second bedroom when there is only one person renting, all sorts of stuff.
I agree with I think everyone that they should get the sheets but I imagine it is so frustrating for because you were already prepared, etc. For me, I don’t really want to ask who is sleeping where, etc.
Also, I don’t like people sleeping on my couch because it isn’t a pull-out and it is fabric. I guess I would just do it (bring sheets)…
I would add it seems people can always have a combination of things we aren’t prepared for. I have started sending a confirmation outlining that I have two beds (I list the size) in two bedrooms. I can setup the third with an air mattress. Last people said, "oh, I am glad you mentioned that because we have extra people coming now and we were going to bring our own air mattress. I let it (the extra fee) slide because they were paying a premium and I setup the mattress so they wouldn’t sleep on the couch in case their mattress didn’t work. It is hard and I learn every time so I might also next time remind them of the fee for extra guests.
I believe you’ll be setting yourself for a lot of frustration if you don’t leave extra linens in your listing. Guests will see the sleeping arrangements as it’s one of the few things they really look at in a listing. Most of them won’t read where you say that they must request extra linens for the sofa.
I may be wrong but are you saying you think they are bringing in extra people, other than the two they have booked for? If this is the case, they need to change their booking to the correct number of guests and pay for them properly. Only then would I think about taking extra linen over. I do agree though that you should keep extra on site somewhere; not accessible but where you can tell people it is.
I agree with Joan. If they bring people that are not on the reservation, Air BnB insurance may not cover them. We only allow registered guests to stay.
We recently had a group that we suspect had extra guests because every blanket was used and some left in couches. Every towel was used. We are getting a Ring camera to prevent this. More than the extra guest fee, I am concerned about the liability and ticking off my neighbors.
Ask them
Why they ask for extra linens. Are there more than 2 people?
I had the same story and guest told me it will be 2 more people. There was no room
For 2 more people and they were cancelled by Airbnb and I got paid anyway.
But in your case you don’t even know if there are extra people. Before you provide them
With extra linens ask first
Perfect. I deal with this in a similar manner. I say that we have two bedrooms and an air mattress available for any groups larger than 5. Any smaller groups are welcome to use the air mattress for a £25 fee (or something similar.) That’s basically to cover the costs of doing the extra linens laundry, plus the wear and tear on the air mattress. I’ve already had to replace one.
not your problem - they have to sort themselves out themselves - if they booked for two people and not 3/4 etc the deal is done - just tell them - thankyou for your message the space/apartment/room (which ever) is set up to accommodate your booking request - enjoy your stay -
its for them to be organised not you
You didn’t say how many beds your listing has. If it’s just one and 2 people are travelling together and uncomfortable sharing a bed, then their request seems reasonable to me.
I agree with Ellen - leave additional linens in the unit for future guests. Also, as another said above, it’s good advice for all remote hosts to have a security camera, or Ring doorbell, at the front door to monitor number of guests. Many remote hosts have been saved by this.
