You have NO idea what socialism is other than the fear campaigns on right wing media. “They” are not “stripping away our liberties” “they” are trying to keep all of us healthy and not have the medical care system overwhelmed by folks like you that “don’t believe”. Belief has nothing to do with how this virus kills or causes ongoing lifetime problems.

Time for you to stop drinking the Rush Kool-Aid and watching Faux News. In the real world this is a serious public health problem that is causing serious economic problems.

Do you also object to using seat belts and using child car seats? How about drunk driving? Think that should be allowed so people are free to make their own risk assessment about whether they pose a danger to the public?
You don’t have the freedom to put other’s lives at risk. This is about saving lives, not your “liberties”.

Now we’re getting to your point. It may be that while fearing the US is about to become the peoples republic of whatever, the fact these is a rather nasty bug flying around has passed you by.

So far, getting on for 300,000 (very conservative estimate) of your fellow Americans have died from Covid, while your president, and I am using that term loosely, would appear to prefer a round of golf instead of behaving like a responsible leader. Almost 8,000,000 have “recovered” from it, and, going forward, many of them will now have life changing conditions for many years to come.

If, by imposing restriction on movement, curbing large gatherings and asking folks to wear masks, all in an effort to reduce infections and deaths, is seen by you as “stripping away our liberties and freedoms”, then it shows both an extremely selfish outlook and a casual disregard for the health of your neighbour.

I suspect you’re not alone in your misguided beliefs, and maybe that’s why your country is in the shit state it is right now, in respect of Covid infections and deaths.

This used to be a place where hosts supported each other. I’ve been posting for years and have gotten to know hosts from all over the world. It was nice. It would be a shame if politics causes the site to attack people with different beliefs.

However, if you are going to post here you should always be prepared for contrary opinions whether it’s to tell you not to use colored microfiber sheets or to tell you that you are a looney tunes for supporting Trump.

That should be your enduring proof that Trump is a crook. The promises are always just a short time away. Mexico is going to pay for the wall, we’ll have a great new health plan, a deal with North Korea is in the wings, the virus will just disappear by Easter, then June, then Labor Day, then the election. Four years to expose all kinds of things, and what happened? Nothing. 4 years of chanting “Lock her up!” Who? Who is going to do that if not him? The stupidest campaign slogan of all time has to be Make America Great Again used by the person who was in power the last 4 years? You can’t make it up. It’s beyond parody.

As a lifelong Republican, I wish Joe and Kamala the best. As of January 20th, they will be my President and VP and as such I want them to be successful, healthy, and good for the country. They have my support (not unconditional because I don’t vote party lines - ever - and I don’t 100% lockstep agree with anyone. I don’t live in an echo chamber…)

Fellow “gun nut” here, have been shooting since I was 8. And as a woman who has always worked in male-dominated industries (finance and technology), I’m working hard to not be sexist towards the man-splaining and interruptions! :wink: :smiley: And I’m aware enough of my privilege to work hard on being aware of and stopping racism.

Politics. Do we have a thread about AirBNB anti-discrimination rules. That are fair stricter than US Government rules. The US allows you to discriminate in choice of roommate.

I know a young pretty girl that is scared out of her mind because she cannot check who will be her roommates due to AirBNB’s decision to hide photos. She is not allowed to see her future roommates‘ photos.
Requiring a girl to share her apartment with a bunch of scary guys is scary

Tell the pretty young girl that hosts who home-share are allowed to only accept others of their own gender. She can state females only and if a male books, she can have it cancelled.

Actually suggesting that this may be the case is scarier. If you’d taken the time to read the info on the Airbnb web site, before criticising their policy, you’d have known that the above is simply not true.

There is no “roommate”; if she is advertising on Airbnb then they are short term rental guests.

If she is unhappy with Airbnb’s policies then I am sure there are other platforms that, dependent on her circumstances, may be a better fit.
