They say the best form of advertising is word of mouth – I’m going to revive this old-fashioned tool just for fun: make a kinda retro Airbnb postcard (printed by Office Depot cheap) to leave around for guests. The front will be the signature photo from our listing, and the back a bit of tongue-in-cheek messaging encouraging our guests to send off the postcard for a laugh.
The current QR codes are just placeholders until the household geek creates a couple of real ones, and then it’s off to the print-shop and the fun begins! If I get ONE reservation in the next decade from this goofy idea it will have paid for itself many times over, and – in the meantime – I can add “I used a QR code once” to my resume.
I’ve thought of doing postcards. I have a friend who comes to my town in Mexico with her husband every winter for several months. She likes to paint, and does lovely little watercolors, and has gifted me with several, one of which I framed and hangs on the wall in my guest room.
Last season, just before they were heading back to Canada, I asked her if I could pay her to do a painting of my house when she came back, that I could use to print on postcards and business cards, so hopefully that will happen this season.
You might be surprised to find that postcards become “new-fashioned”, @Spark. I’ve been reading that a lot of Gen Zers are sick of all the technology they’ve grown up with, and are opting to eschew smart phones for old-style flip phones, so snail mail postcards might become trendy to send.
QR codes are really easy to make. Just find a free QR code generator (I’ve used QR Code Monkey- https://www.qrcode-monkey.com/) and enter the URL you want the QR code to go to. That’s it.
You can also create one to take them to an app store(or lots of other options). I’ve never done that but a quick Google search finds a few free options.
Do you need a different one to send people to our listing on the Airbnb app vs send them to our Airbnb URL on a windows or Mac browser? Does the end-user’s OS matter?
I don’t know how to send one to the listing on the app, but it’s easy to send them to your listing on the AirBnB website. No, their browser type or OS does not matter.
