Escorted to leave prior to completing scheduled visit

Guests have to agree to the house rules when they book. In ours it says ‘Please note that only two guests are permitted to stay overnight in the apartment.’.

@KIKC see my comments up thread. This was fixed in the last update.

Precisely. Which begs the question: How did this even pass through the programming brains of AirBnB in the first place?

I actually signed up before they initiated the “additional guests: no extra charge.” fiasco, but I have seen forum threads about it before. I was not aware that it is fixed, I hope that is true.

you got it   apart from being rude…

I agree with most of the hosts. I diffently state in my rules that they must book the correct number of guests. But I also would have understood the situation and would have allowed you to stay 1 night. But otherwise hosts do have the right to cancel your reservation if the rules are broken

I feel sorry for you as it must have been a horrible experience, but you are, I think, young, and will get over it. And it is a very good lesson for you, as it should be for all of us - what in cyberspeak I think they call RTFM - read the “flippin” manual! We are all sometimes guilty of skimming through something on the web - “Oh, that sounds nice - I’ll have it!” without carefully checking all the facts.

It’s certainly true that the “Additional guests no extra charge” statement was ambivalent, but as @p_v says, a little thought would have shown your friend it couldn’t be taken literally. A quick email or text to the host would have confirmed that and in any case would have been a courtesy.

It’s also true that some hosts might have let you stay the one night - I probably would have - but the host was completely within his rights, even though he perhaps could have handled it more pleasantly, and the fact that he actually asked your friend how many people were staying suggests that he’d had bad experienced previously with people deliberately smuggling extra guests in (I’m not suggesting you were trying to do this.)

So don’t let it spoil Airbnb for you, chalk it up to experience and in future, if you’re not sure about anything in the listing - just “reach out” (I hate that expression!) to the host!

@Malagachica, would you write my review for that family with the non-verbal child? You have great skill!! (Kidding about the request, of course, but I do wish I could write as well as you)

slsimons,

I would fight Airbnb on this. I am intrigued reading this thread because I (as a host) always thought “additional guests no charge” meant that the host would allow people to pile into the place.

It could be the reason I never made the correlation that it seems every other host in this thread has…is because I have a maximum of 6 guests. My base rate is for 4 guests, and each additional guest (up to 6) is $12 extra.

So when I would see a listing in my area that say “sleeps 10” and then have “additional guests no charge” I thought they were so crazy and couldn’t believe they were allowing endless people to stay.

I assumed “sleeps 10” just meant there are enough comfortable beds for 10 guests but an unlimited amount of additional guests can bring sleeping bags and sleep on the bathroom floor if they want.

Air should clear this and compensate you. You can even copy and paste my understanding as a host and I am not even new!

This is a bug that needs to be fixed. I state clearly no additional guests, so of course setting a price would make it seem like I take them. So I changed it to $400 per additional guest and they get the hint.

Aaawww, @dcmooney, thank you so much! I always think your posts are a model of sense and sensibility!.As to the other thread, all I could think was that you showed absolutely saint-like patience!

I purposely have a fee for my 2 last guests so as to avoid this supposition or predicament.

The reliance on the ‘friend’s dad’ bothers me about the OP.

I got exactly the same feeling. Personally, I avoid at all cost, clashes of legal rights, and give compromise a chance first.

nope. I would have done the same thing. I’ve had situations where people have tried to sneak a third person into a room for two to save money on renting my second room. It’s fraud and it’s my home. Read the manual, follow the rules, be respectful and if you break the rules suffer the consequences.

Thank you cabinhost for your understanding - I took it exactly how you did, literally. I have seen multiple posts with fees for extra guests so we took it as the host wasn’t charging for extra guests. If I had known, I would’ve advised her otherwise.

That makes sense for you and me, but i had that happened with me quite a bit. This is a typical ocnverstaion:
Guests: But… there is no extra charge for additional guest
Me: meaning what? That you can bring any amount of additional guests
Guests: NO… but i am being reasonable, i only brought 2 additional people.
Me: How is it being reasonable if maximum allowed is 2?
Guests: I did not pay attention on maximum allowed
Me: but then why you booked for 2 instead of 4?
Guests: Because when i put 4, ir did not allow me to book.
Me: And even then you did not figure out that there might be something wrong with you booking for 2 and brining 4?
Also, did you notice that there is only 1 queen bed in a room, WHere are you going to put another 2 adults? ( there was nothing on them indicating even presence of sleeping bags).
Guest: Well i thought may be they can sleep on a couch.
Me: SO, you just assumed that i would let you sleep on a couch in my living room without even asking?
Guests: Well, … then we will just sleep in a car then, because its late and hotels are very expensive.
Me: 2 of you can stay since you already paid for the room, but NO, noone can sleep on my driveway, and NO, you can not all of you in a morning take a shower in my house.
Guests: You are making it such a huge deal, we did not think it would be such a big problem.

Once it was a father, mother and 3 kids. And i am not joking, father asked me if i can accomodate his kids in a closet!

This really is a glitch in the system. Instead of no charge it should say no extra charge for first two guests, no additional guests allowed over two or something. Airbnb step up!

For me it was never a question though. Someone who stayed in a hotel at least couple of times before knows that you must book for the amount of people in your party. I know people sneak in sometimes in hotels kids or other guests if there are 2 beds in a room. I can see how they do it: there is a cat walk, and noone really sees how many people go into a room. But … not to someone’s house!
