You have joined us riff-raff in the downgraded zone! It’s kinda nice here… Far lower expectations!

@KKC I think it would bug me too…it’s in my personality. This is why I’m wondering if it was such a good thing to get in the first place. But for the moment I’ll enjoy it.

@cabinhost have you had it then lost it a few times like some of the others here? It sure doesn’t take much to lose it - one more 4* review for me and I’m toast. Can’t believe getting a 4 feels like getting a 1. Goofy.

This is the first time I have lost the precious badge. It looks like it was based on not having 10 bookings within the last year. I have had way more than 10…just not through Air.

Just got an email declaring am a super host, I thought you had to be with airbnb a while, am only doing it since the end of May. I like doing airbnb but not sure how practical it is to continue in Ireland, as half your earnings go to tax, the tax man is not the one on his knees cleaning the toilet. A few people I have meet online are moving away from airbnb due to the very high tax rate.

The SH requirements are posted online. There’s no minimum time requirement.

A 4 actually is just fine. Just look at the reviews for top-end hotels (Hilton, etc.) on Yelp or similar and you rarely see 5 stars; so to expect us to achieve that is a bit much. However, as you mentioned Super Host status is based on the whole experience. Maybe one’s location could influence a guest to give a 4, but then give 5s for the other categories? It’s possible; especially if your rental isn’t in a great area but the accommodation itself is excellent.

In any case, I just got notified that I’ve reached what I like to call ā€œSuper Bitchā€ status! :)))) I was, quite frankly, very surprised because last year I’d cancelled 2 reservations–both of whom had already checked in. However there were ā€œextenuating circumstancesā€: one was a mental case and, now that I think of it, so was the other one. I won’t bore you with their antics.

So I shall see how long my elevated status lasts. I just have a bed in my living room for solo travelers–nothing fancy as they say, but it’s very reasonable and I’m a pleasant person. People see what a great value they’re getting and really appreciate it.

We’re never bored hearing about guest’s antics. I almost spit coffee on my keyboard laughing so hard about the handcuffs on a different thread.

My house is in perfect location, very central, in avery safe and beautifull neighborhood with park with a lake across the street. House itself is very modern and clean. Very quiet. I stayed in many many Airbnbs across the globe and i never stayed in a house equal to mine, not to bragg:)
So, no its not the case that something is wrong with my house. I am also very friendly and guests comment on it all the time.
I am not worried at all about this SH status, and actually think thats its quite silly as i stayed recently in a dirty messy house , and she had SH status.

Agreed. Tell us all about the antics, @J_Wang.

Well there ya go! She had a messy house and yet she was a Super B :))) What a hoot. And all it takes are a couple of oddball people to take it away from you. I’m like you; I think it’s all pretty silly.

And speaking of ā€œlocationā€, I’ve had a some guests mark me lower than a 5–which has given me that half of 5th star on the ratings. I’m in a decent residential neighborhood that’s very close to shops and minutes from the beach. But some may want beachfront with swaying palms and bars just steps away. So pay for that if that’s what you expect! :)))

I’m annoyed that I didn’t get a $100 voucher since I’ve had these stats for a full year. So I basically need to not cancel on anyone for 2 years for a $100 credit? This is the lamest program…

I’m annoyed that you can’t give the $100.00 voucher so someone else. To me, a gift is only a gift if you can do whatever you want with it.

Wow, after reading this, I am glad to know this SUPERHOST status doesnt really mean anything.

Exactly. Noone wants to pay extra for the beach front ,so they save every penny and then complain about location, like its our fault that they are on a strict budget.I am also very close to shopping plaza and restaurants 2 min.walk. And 4 miles from the beach.
It was funny how one guy booked my room for the cheapest possible rate on IB. Mine was the only room under 75$ that day on IB in 30 miles radius, and he booked me around 10 pm. SO, obviously, he did not have much choice. All hotels prices were over 100$, and my room was only 50$. And he gave me 3* for value. Mind you , the room is around 200 sq.feet, with all stone and marble private bathroom, with many toiletries for every inch of human body, and free hot drinks. He gave me all the rest categories 4*, even cleanliness, which i get 99% 5*.
Really nothing can make a person like this give you 5*. He left around 7 am, may be that why he felt like he did not have enough for his 50$

I wasn’t aware of that policy–the no cancel for 2 years, all for a lousy $100 voucher? What a total joke! Well, it is a nice touch on the part of Airbnb, but come on. What we do for them? Even with my little bed-in-the-living room operation here it’s still quite a bit of work to maintain. And I am grateful for the extra income that I really have come to depend on–probably like most of us do.
