Interesting that the Dallas government is fine with STRs in multifamily-housing zoning. No need to preserve the neighborhood there, I guess; fine if you get priced out of an apartment or have to dodge people with rolling suitcases in the hallway.
To give them the benefit of the doubt, perhaps they thought HOA rules and lease agreements would control STRs in those areas. However, entrepreneurs may now see an opportunity to buy, say, a 6-plex, and turn the entire building into an Airbnb.
Interesting. My community did almost exactly the opposite. Here, Airbnb is only allowed in owner occupied homes. This to prevent parties and more importantly to prevent Airbnb from taking over the housing market. I wonder what Dallas is hoping to accomplish with this?
My township was pushing for a zoning change to prohibit STRs as well. For a number of reasons, it was dropped.
Appeasing the people whose votes they care about, no doubt.
