I would like to close the calender for six months, over the winter time. I have looked and it seems like the only way is to keep the calender closed as a default and open manually. Is it the only way? And if I closed it will the bookings already in stay in? Thank you 
Just highlight the months on the calendar you want to close and block them off, and yes you would manually have to reopen and the other bookings will stay. It sounds like more work than it really is.
