I had a guest spill an entire cup of coffee on my carpet and NOTHING will get that stain out!!!
I charged the guest for a carpet cleaning system and an area rug. I have not had the chance to use the machine yet due to back to back guests.
Indeed it is. Thatās a fine aphorism. Something to write on the lintel of your Airbnb rental, perhaps.
Iāve forgotten to check under the bed a couple of times and once a guest found a pack of condoms (luckily an unopened pack, not used condoms). Got punished for that, understandably
Oh, they didnāt view it as a hospitality item?
@Sarah_Warren I always encourage my guests to enjoy themselvesā¦
It has to be in a cute basket to move up to a hospitality item. Playing go-fish under the bed does not count.
I agree with @Sarah_Warren. My guest room is about 90% new (well a year old now) It is so much easier to keep those 5 star ratings coming in when everything seems new. Things like stains, mineral deposits and mold in bathrooms make them look dirty.
My biggest cleaning problem was with the old set up. All my 4s were with the hall bathroom that my friends would use or in the shared spaces there would be dog hair or something dripped on the counter. Trying to keep the whole house (minus my master suite) 5 star clean for under $50 a night was insane.
We have a 2 night guest here who is checking out in the next hour. Itās just occurred to me, in a moment of panic, that I forgot to put a new roll of toilet paper in his bathroom. We use the bathroom when we donāt have guests, so no idea if it was a full roll, a half roll, just a few sheets leftā¦ it could have even been an empty roll
I definitely cleaned the bathroom I just donāt remember checking!
So this guys been here 2 nights and I have no idea what his toilet paper sitch has been. Bad, bad host!
Edit: just popped in to check (itās an adjacent bathroom, not ensuite) and sure enough thereās one lonely sheet on the roll. I can only hope it had plenty left on it previously. I replaced it obviously, but probably too little too late. There goes my 5 star review
Ah! This reminded me of one of my mistakes. The room was all cleaned but I forgot to put a bath towel in the bathroom and there were none others available. All the fellow had was a hand towel. I apologized in my private message that goes with the review. He still gave me 5 stars.
Oh thatās good to hear! Iāll do the same in private feedback. I do make it clear that guests can ask me about anything at all, so I would hope heād have done that if he needed more. I just hate the thought that I probably left half a roll, it seems so cheap and I would never intentionally do that.
On another note, he has 5 minutes til check out time and Iām only just hearing signs of life from his room, so maybe a late check out will be his payback
I just had a near escape on this. My cleaner isnāt too bright, so I do a check after, but I missed this until I was in my loo. There are extra rolls in cabinet but itās not nice too find one sheet left.
Iāve done the same, and the guest cracked me in the review but it got lost in the laundry list of things he didnāt like such as having to pay tax or a cleaning fee.
Weāve been very lucky - cleanliness is the one category that we have received 5 Stars for every single time over 152 reviews. We figure itās the only category that we actually have control over - and it shows.
Yes us too, but only 51 reviews. Iām dreading the first 4 star!! That said, our house is almost new and architecturally designed, Iām sure that gives a much higher perception of cleanliness. As Iāve seen mentioned in here before those with older places seem to have a harder time getting those high stars, even when cleaned spotlessly. It definitely helps us that everything is shiny and new! Desperate to hold onto those 5 stars though
Iām obsessive about cleanliness and hardly ever get high ratings on it. No idea why.
Me too and this morning I was cleaning the rental after a pretty scruffy couple. I had a feeling because of their appearance that the place wasnāt going to be great when they left.
I was right. Iāve never seen the bathtub in such terrible shape. The floor was full of crumbs and other debris. And Iāve never had such badly soiled bedlinen. (And they were in their seventies - this wasnāt a young couple who were at it all night).
They were pleasant people, relatively quiet and followed the checkout procedure more or less in that they took out the trash, washed and put away the dishes etc. But it took way longer to clean than it usually does.
But the killer was that I saw that she had written me a review so I wrote one for her. Yep, she gave me four stars for cleanliness! āDustā evidently. (Not in the public review, thankfully.) Well, theyād been in the apartment for two weeks, they often had the door open and although there was certainly no dust when they arrived, yes there was when they left - of course.
So we can cross reference this post to the one about why we donāt like people who stay more than xx days.
Hi KonaCoconutz!
I reckon Gardenhost has hit the nail on the head!
The perception of cleanliness is as closely related to āinterior designā as to actual cleanliness.
I work in the field of interior design and my background is in psychology and perception, so I understand well how to create a powerful vista.
If youād like some help, you could email me some photos - Iāll send you some notes about how to tweak the presentation.
Hugs from Boo
Yep
And also reference it to those who think that teenagers and under 25s are the messiest guests.
Yupā¦ I have been marked down for dust ā dust that was not there when they checked in but might have fallen since they checked in
