Charging station for guest's electronics?

As a guest, what would your ideal charging station look like? Do you travel with a laptop, tablet, and a cell phone, etc?

Set up is a two bedroom whole house rental. Sleeps 4 and exceptions are made for 6 guests.

Do you also have toddlers who have their own tablets, etc.?

I need to create some sort of set up in each bedroom. I want to be sure there is plenty of room to lay out the electronics and meet the needs of what both U.S. and Intl travelers might need.

The last time I traveled I didn’t even own a laptop. But I would think I’d like shelving and outlets to be in my bedroom, esp. if traveling with another couple. I do get many groups with two couples.

Any feedback appreciated.

@Barthelemy - tagging you on this post because I thought in an old thread you recommended some kind of device that met the needs of everyone traveling???

Oh God I hope people aren’t giving toddlers tablets

Somehow came across some articles yesterday and yes - had no idea there were so many parents who gave toddlers their own tablets.

Sadly they do. To shut them up. God knows what it is doing to them neuro-developmentally. I despair.

We have them in the classrooms for preschoolers to use. There are a lot of great educational apps.

I am sure there are, but do they really need them on holiday.

No way of knowing how today’s parents operate. I never forbade or restricted my kids’ time on screens. They are 22 now… and one has just graduated with highest honors and the other is about to graduate with two degrees, a certificate in international relations and a certifcate of fluency in Japanese. He was a fully funded Mext scholar last year. Point is, I don’t think all their computer time as kids hurt them. If anything it helped!

You’d be surprised. Today’s kids become fluent in the language of computers at the same time they learn oral and written language. Even our autistic and sped kids know far more about their iPad operations than many adults.

At 2, I caught my son ordering thing online and even had his shopping cart full!

No they can actually follow through and play games!

It’s the future, people, get used to it. Kids can do tablets, TV, climbing trees, playing with sticks, card games… the only limit is what you impose on them.

Yeah…clicking on a button to play a cartoon is different than ordering things online though.
If the kid can’t read and fully talk and is not even potty trained…then all they are doing is clicking on buttons…

What kind of games do they follow when they haven’t even learned to potty on the toilet yet? I am genuinely asking. What does a 1 year or 2 year old follow when they are still shitting in their pants?

@cabinhost -
We have a three-bedroom whole house rental. I provide four-outlet USB chargers on each side of each bed so they can charge their phones while they sleep and use them as alarms if they wish. But many of our guests end up using the desks in the common area (I have two writing desks in the living room). I have a four-outlet charger there, too.

Last time I was in Costco, I saw a wall unit that had six grounded outlets and six (or 4, can’t remember) USB charging ports, too. $15 US. I snagged a couple of them and might be going back for more.

Bottom line - I don’t think there is a perfect solution.

I put USB blocks in each room with these chargers. I’ve found that the four different ports cover most phones and several guests have mentioned that they thought having these was a good touch.

I have to disagree. They can be learning shapes, the alphabet, listen to music, watch ballets… my kid started to use my computer at 18 months. She is finished her doctorate right now. And she loved watching the Russian Ballet companies, particularly anything by Tchaikovsky. She then moved onto Wagner’s Ring Cycle. She was potty trained when she fell in love with Brünnhilde.

It can take a while to toilet train, that has nothing to do with intelligence, profieciency or cognition. My son didn’t train until he was almost 4. (This is the one who is getting two degrees right now and is fluent in Japanese.) however, he was reading before 3! He taught himself the alphabet overnight. But that is unusual.

I guess it’s hard to explain until you watch toddlers with the iPad using some apps fast and proficiently. They totally can use it with intelligence, even if they don’t actually read yet. Reading is something that happens in stages, now beginning at about kindergarten. You need to teach them phonics, letters and language sounds before they can begin to read. And that takes a while.

Some of the apps are great for teaching them reading!

Our sped kids use iPads to communicate. Some are severely autistic and cannot speak all. I’m talking about 14 year olds who cannot say their names.

I travelled a lot for work and I never found a hotel room that supplied chargers, just power outlets. I think it’s a great idea to supply chargers to in the event that someone managed to forget their chargers. It would be a life saver!

You might do some research and make sure you can charge Apple iPads and phones. They are the most common. Also there is a pretty common microD connector for android cell phones and it would be great to be able to charge those.

Although I travelled with a laptop for work, I think you will go crazy trying to accommodate all the laptops power ports.

My experience is that the USB chargers charge kind of slowly, at least in the car, so they will do for overnight but only if the traveler remembered to bring their cable.

There are some common international power plug adapts that might be helpful. I have one that adapts UK, France, Europe to US.

My other concern is that small things like plug adapters will walk off. I’m really new to this. Does that happen?

My best to you all!
