Are you allowed to charge extra for parking? Like you can for cleaning fee? Seems like you should be able to. Would you be allowed to state in the description you charge extra, then submit a “special offer” at higher rate to specific inquiry. I don’t want to include it, it is not always available and I prefer people not use it but if they really want it I want them to have the option to pay extra for it. People can easily park on the street in front of the house.
Don’t see why not. As long as you don’t say it’s included in the listing price elsewhere
I wouldn’t. It’s one of those nickel and dime turn-off things. If it’s free, they might be resentful when they get there and see they were dinged for something free. If you feel like you need more money, just raise the rates a bit.
The point is, I don’t want people to park in my driveway, but I don’t want to completely forbid it either if it really important to the guest. This is a great case for charging. I don’t charge a cleaning fee as many/most hosts do, so risk of perception of nickel and diming is low. I don’t understand the scenario about how something could be free and also be charged for (dinged) at the same time.
As a guest, I would be willing to pay a parking fee where it has a real cost and value, like a dedicated space in a subterranean parking in a dense metropolitan neighborhood. A fee to park in a driveway would sound like a bad joke. Just tell guests that they cannot park on your driveway but that on-street parking is available.
As a host, I provide a dedicated garage, at no cost as the garage came with the apartment when I bought it. I would charge a parking fee only if I had to buy or rent a parking to provide the service.
In my neighborhood, a parking space in a driveway is worth close to $350 per month. That is true in many densely populated cities. But, since we use it and don’t rent it out, we agree to share it with our guests IF they are willing to leave the keys in the front foyer so that we can get our cars out if needed. Another “cost” is that if a guest is parked in the drive, we will have to shovel it out much earlier in the morning than we might for our own cars.
I don’t charge. Instead, I consider it an incentive to potential guests (and their cars) who want to be close to the city, in an area with almost no parking, to stay with us. It is a selling point; not a sales point.
Exactly. I find that free parking is something that is very popular with our guests. It can often swing the balance,
Me too. Although I use IB I still get a lot of enquiries. And the top one is ‘is there free parking?’
My listing states that there is free parking. Anyone who knows anything at all about this area knows how valuable this is. People who arrive with cars are generally here to see family, friends, or to visit one of the local colleges. By the time they are looking at AirBNB, they have already learned that local hotels charge at least $25/night for parking. I look pretty good in comparison.
Me too. The parking space costs me nothing so why should I charge for it? It’s a bonus for guests. It sets our rental apart - which is good.
You may not want to change a paying guest for parking. However, If you have the space you can start a separate parking business. Check out CurbFlip.com Its like Airbnb but for parking spaces.
Good luck.
Hope you aren’t digging up an old post so you can promote your own business
I would welcome if there was option to charge a fee for parking space on Airbnb as it is for cleaning.I have parking space available if my guest need and sometimes I cannot meet my guests and I have to always tell them to leave the fee on table before they check out.It happened we both forgot and I lost money.
