Hi I have asked on the community pages on airbnb but awaiting a response. Is it possible to change a booking from one room to another without asking the guest to potentially cancel and rebook or me facing a penalty.
I have two rooms. My current guest has asked if he can stay next week however I have a one nighter booked for that room. I want to message my next guest, the one nighter, and ask if she would mind being upgraded to free up the first room for a booking for the whole week. Can we do this?
Can anyone help please?
So the two rooms are two different listings? So it would appear that one is being cancelled when really they are just using a different room? Interesting - I look forward to hearing what people say.
Yes, you can do that. The guest should be happy with the upgrade. Or you can move the current guests to the better room. Both would seem to be easy solutions.
But how do you do this on the air bob calendar so it is free for other people to book it via air bnb. The room needs to show as available for booking on airbnb
I would just make the changes between the guests and don’t worry about making the calendar accurate?
Definitely ask the future guest first. But word it in a way where she is being given the option and it is zero issue for you either way. Don’t word it like you are asking her a favor because you never know how that could come back to bite you if she ends up being high maintenance - “Host asked me to give up the room I booked so that another guest could be accommodated…blah blah”
Hi Guest,
I hope you are looking forward to your stay next week. I am emailing to see if you would like a free upgrade to the other bedroom I offer in my home. (List here the upgrades). The reason I am offering is because my current guest is extending his stay and I was going to move him to the upgraded room when you arrive. But after thinking about it, it made more sense to offer the free upgrade to you first since he would need to pack up his room and move everything. Either way…I could care less and neither does my guest. I just wanted to give you the first option. If interested reply back asap. Thanks.
OK…it needs more polishing. But you get my drift. I don’t know if you remember when Sandy used to post and say how her guests would act really weird whenever she upgraded them to a nicer room upon arrival. I think she even said she would walk them by the room they booked and show it, and then lead them to the nicer room. But the guests were just weird about it. Almost like the guest thinks you’re doing a bait and switch, when clearly they could see she was giving them a free upgrade. It’s not like there was something really special in the lesser cost room that they were missing. It was just so odd.

That exact same scenario happened with me. So, I told them it was a free upgrade and they were deeeelighted!
