CBS morning show 7/21/22 about STR

This morning CBS morning show featured a segment about how to avoid bad summer vacation rentals.

Of course they called all STRs Airbnbs

They chatted about guest chores & high cleaning fees.

It’s worth watching.

people act as though before ABB short-term rentals weren’t dodgy.

and too funny, underneath that video was an ad for Stayz.

I think i will write “no hidden chores” in my listing now, this seems to be a common complaint lately.

I agree, I may do this also. My checkout instructions are very simple. In fact, in todays climate, most of it is describing what they don’t need to do.

  • I prefer it if they don’t strip the beds. I originally had that in there because it was “normal”. But, they are so inconsistent in how they do it, it didn’t really help at all. And, I got worried as a couple of guests stripped the mattress protector also. What happens then if the mattress gets stained from dirty luggage while they are packing? Its easier to just do it myself and it gives me a chance to inspect for any “spot treatments” that need to be done before it goes into the washer.
  • I let them know I clean and sanitize all dishes between guests in our dishwasher. The only thing I ask is that they rinse them if they have time to help prevent dried on food. And, I give them a bin to put the dirty dishes in.

But, my unit is basically a duplex setup and we live in the other half. So, very simple for me to take care of it between guests.

SAME.
I find that guests who strip the bed are doing so to hide stains, and it’s much harder to spot them when the sheets are in a ball on the floor.
I honestly prefer guests don’t wash dishes, i ask them to pack the dishwasher (i think this is normal behaviour anyway), and if they do handwash i ask them to leave them out so i can put things back “in case you don’t remember where things go”. really i want to inspect everything they washed. we also have to check all the glassware anyway.
our bins are up the top of a long driveway at the farm exit, so I don’t expect guests to lug the rubbish bag up there either.
If this is going to become a new complaint about abb then it’s better to get ahead of issue.

I stayed in an ABB last year for a month and the chores list was very long upon checkout, despite us also paying a sizable cleaning fee, and i was not impressed. I remember i had put away a few useless (and breakable) trinkets and she messaged me asking where they were, telling me i was supposed to have put everything back. honestly, i should have dinged her in the review for that snark.
