Question: The airbnb I’m going to stay at tomorrow is asking for a cash deposit of 50€ - I love this idea, because I also hand out housekeys - is this something that a host is allowed to do?

We completely avoided the issue by installing a key-pad unit: Schlage - keypad lock - BE365
Works great, After each guest leaves, you change the pincode. No worries about lost keys or some guest duping a key. We don’t have locks on internal doors apart from simple hooks and chains on the bedroom doors.

Lost keys are charged to the guest deposit at
$15. Have not had anyone lose.
