Bookings six months into the future; what does it mean?

I would never book that far in advance without a deposit because if you confirm the booking it is blocked on your calendar and no one else can book it…BUT then your booked guest could cancel at any time without penalty, so
you will not get other bookings and will have lost many potential guests.
