Bed sheet / duvet cover thickness

By the way, most hotels do not use 100% cotton sheets. Apparently the Fairmont does. For a mere $300 you can have a set of their 300 thread count 100% cotton sateen sheets in queen size. https://us.fairmontstore.com/collections/striped-sateen-linens/products/striped-sateen-linens?variant=31068291020
No thanks!!!

Yes! I was looking at the same exact one from the same exact company! They also have one with a striped pattern that I was considering as a way of adding more character.

Is it that bad? The cleaning fee accounts for washing sheets, but we’re hoping to let the house-keeper do this as a way of her earning a bit of extra cash.

Interesting to know that the Fairmont only use 300.

You might consider using the stripe for a different size, or for the duvet covers if you go with white for those too. Makes it easier to tell apart for housekeeper. Hotel sheets are often color coded.

Sometimes I use a laundry pen on the label to identify the linen. I put a bed set together inside one of the pillowcases in the linen cupboard.

Not at all. I wouldn’t expect wrinkled sheets at this pricepoint. The ad recommends damp ironing for that particular percale. I like a crisp cool sheet in summer and I live in a hot climate.

I like damask as well, especially in winter.

I love damask. There’s something comforting in its traditional nature. I have a cotton set from John Lewis with a slight flock, and it’s just cooled down enough for me to have it back on my bed!

Very clever! I wanted different colours for that reason, but everyone was insisting on white! So striped is a clever way of achieving that! There are thin stripes and thick stripes too! VERY CLEVER!

That makes sense too!

Absolutely.

I think I need to re-educate myself. Will look into it.

Hi Fahed. We use a mid-weight synthetic duvet down in Tasmania, Australia, and a bed blanket at the foot of the bed through winter (one that is fast drying, synthetic, but looks much more expensive than it is!). I used to use feather doonas but the drying time was too high when we have high turnover of guests. I no longer use 1000 thread count sheets, instead just keep an eye out when 400 thread count sheets come on sale- Ikea sheets have been good!

I do love finding patterned sheets that suit the decor, I always think it makes the bed look a bit more interesting/special.

Hi Fahed,

I recommend an on-line retailer in the UK, Absolute Home Textiles. They are major suppliers to the Hotel/Hospitality and Care/Nursing Home industries. They sell in bulk at very good prices and you are going to need a lot of linens! The more you order, the less you pay. In their hotel ranges, they have 400 tc Egyptian cotton/percale sheets, easier to iron, and good quality Egyptian cotton towels. For each guest, I put out a bath sheet, a bath towel and a hand towel. They also do flannels in bulk, great for removing makeup and avoiding synthetic face wipes being thrown down the loo, blocking the plumbing and ruining our beaches. I was able to get colours to match each bathroom/shower and found matching baskets elsewhere. I have to credit the poster who came up with this last year, although after my need for Dyno-Rod!

I have three sets of sheets/duvet covers for each bed, so I can have one set (including towels) on the beds, one at the laundry and another in the linen cupboard for emergencies. I don’t like fitted sheets as they crumple again after being ironed; you can’t fold them properly and anyway, I’m a stickler for hospital corners. Old habits die hard.

My only disappointment with AHT has been their dressing gowns/bathrobes, but I think perhaps I shouldn’t have bought the cheapest ones. They are okay but not luxuriously fluffy. On the other hand, my sheets have lasted really well, still sparkling white and crisp, and far better than the costly Sanderson ones we have for our own bed.

I hope you have a large, lockable, linen cupboard on site!

I got so excited reading your post, but when I went to their site, I only saw a 200 thread count…

Or am I looking in the wrong place?

You’re in the right place. I’ve just checked my sheets but the label doesn’t specify the thread count. I am sure it was 400 tc but I bought them 18 months ago. Perhaps they have taken them off the market as they didn’t sell well. I will be very disappointed if this is the case.
