I just reviewed an Airbnb and thought hosts might like to see what questions are asked these days.

I will never understand: " was it worth what you paid?" nor “what did you think of the location”.
Talk about subjective…
While those are the most pointless of the ratings, all ratings are essentially extremely subjective, whether given by guests or hosts. There have been threads here where hosts ask for input on how to rate a particular guest, outlining what took place, and received answers ranging from “2* s, Would not welcome back”, to “Seems normal to me. 5* s.”
Star ratings, by their very nature, are not based on facts, but on expectations and experience. A host who has had respectful guests who leave the place clean and tidy and commumicate responsibly will consider a guest who doesn’t to be a bad guest and mark them down. A host who is used to guests who leave a pile of dirty dishes and ignore messages asking for ETAs may accept that as normal.
Same goes for guests. If they are used to IBing and only being sent scheduled messages with the crucial information, they may consider that to be 5* communication. If they are used to booking with hands-on hosts who send them personalized, friendly messages, and even volunteer info they think the guest might find useful, they may find the former type of communication to be off-putting and inadequate.
I am conflicted on this, I just spent a LOT of money on a really nice house in Palm Springs. After taxes, fees and pool heating it was $700 a night. The house was super cute. The neighbors across the street had 5 pickup trucks, 2 on the lawn. The airport noise/flights over house were not disclosed.
I do not think it was a good value overall. Yes, I knew what the price was going in and at that price I expected better.

I just stayed at a cabin at what I discovered was a combo trailer and cabin park. My cabin was wonderful. Right on a roaring river and very comfortable but the cabin on the right was an old lady with a level of clutter and knickknacks on her cabin and yard that can only be described at bordering on tacky hoarding but she was friendly and quiet. I can say the same as the renters on the other side.
I didn’t mark the host down but I too thought that I probably need to pay closer attention to the neighborhood when I book and not just reviews.
