OK…I “thought” I had the Hunger Games trilogy of movies. Maybe I don’t even have it correct. But I thought there were three movies of the entire series.
So…my partner had ordered the set of movies maybe last Spring or Summer. I have never watched any of these movies and I have been telling guests that I have the Hunger Games Trilogy. It came in a pretty box and just recently my partner threw away the box and the only thing left was the DVD book that contained 4 DVDs. Sorry…not a person who purchases movies, so do you know what I am referring to? You open the front cover and it contains the first CD. Then turn the page and the second, and so on…
So I noticed (on the CDs themselves) that the first CD says the movie is 2 hrs. and 22 mintues long. The second CD says it is “special features.” Then the 3rd CD says 2 hrs. and 22 minutes long. And the 4th CD says “special features.” BTW - the 1st and 3rd look identical - and the 2nd and 4th look identical (meaning same character faces on the CDs).
I have been trying to find this exact thing that my partner said he ordered on Ebay. I haven’t found it yet. But my assumption was that the first 3 slots were each the first 3 movies. And the 4th slot was the special features.
I am still hunting around. But wouldn’t it be odd for a sequel to be exactly the same amount of minutes as the original movie? I am fairly certain that at the time my partner ordered the movie he told me it was all three together…
Did someone switch the sequels out and replace with the original? I am still hunting to find this thing he bought. I feel so stupid to tell people for over 6 months I have the trilogy and really they just have a repeat of the original.
The copyright date said 2012 and I saw on the imb site it said that the original was 142 mintues long. So that matches.
Just can’t believe I haven’t been able to google this box set yet. It was a pretty box and it was wrapped in plastic unopened.
I would be upset to find out a guest switched them out. So hopefully it was a strange box with identical sets. Cost of doing business of course. But want to find out before I start taking a walk down memory lane…
Probably what you have is two disks for “ordinary” DVD, and two disks for Blu-Ray which is much higher resolution. You need to know what kind of player you have – regular or Blu-ray. Blu-ray disks will NOT play on a regular player; but regular disks will play on a Blu-ray player.
I have a Blu-ray player but my partner would never order two versions of the same movie - at least not on purpose. He is also aware I am trying to figure this puzzle out and he has no explanation. So let’s say he “accidentally” ordered this two version set, thinking he was looking at a trilogy set.
Are you saying it is very common to sell DVD sets with both versions? Is it common for consumers to want both versions? If so, that def. makes sense why I have two identical sets. I didn’t notice anything different on the face of the disk to say that one was standard and one was in HD. Any idea if I am supposed to be looking for something? Seems kind of silly to make it so that you can’t tell the difference…
Thanks for solving the mystery. I was able to find it right away after knowing what I was looking for. Although this was an E-bay purchase, looks like there are a lot of unhappy campers on Amazon. On there a buyer calls it the Hunger Games Collection Edition with 4 disks. I imagine the E-bay seller had a similar name. Just a couple of the negative reviews:
“I’m completely disgusted with both the seller and myself. If only I had read these reviews!!! Like so many other reviewers I read through the description and details and although it was a bit vague I couldn’t imagine a 4 disc set would not be the 4 movies. In fact it is a 4 disc set collectable for the first movie only. I feel, like others, that the description is deliberately deceptive. I hope others will read these reviews before buying. I had to unwrap it and open the box to determine what I actually got so I cannot return it”
“This is very misleading, it’s just a huge empty box with one of the 3 movies. The 4 disks are the same movie, the hunger games, 2 copies, one dvd one blueray, and two special features disks in the same format. I honestly thought it included the mocking Jay and catching fire. I was disappointed. But the collectable item is cute i guess.”
“I regard this as a rip-off. It is an example of deceptive advertising.
I didn’t realize that it was necessary to read the small print when buying DVDs.
It’s one of a few times that I haven’t read the reviews–Big mistake.”
