Kona, we thought the same thing! How they came up with the amount and or the sq footage is anyones guess, this is a very reckless company with no one holding them accountable.
I would be happy to do so, is there a way it can be done?
I wasnât comparing airbnb to hotels - I was simply talking about amenities in general and lodging options in general (no matter what context youâre referring to have it be airbnb, VRBO, hotels, couch surfing).
You have good and legitimate reasons for not doing it. The reason we keep doing it is because hardly anyone uses the kitchen anyway. But itâs a nice value-add for those who are looking to save a little more money. And my wife loves to cook and she actually enjoys watching people from all over the world cook their foods. Sheâll often ask if she can watch and she has learned so much from them, she really enjoys it.
This is actually perfectly in keeping with the topic of my original post. Itâs about how Airbnbâs $1,000,000 Host Guarantee is absolutely worthless. I welcome any and all examples of that to be added here.
@unclebrio, I would go after them every way you can. Including as some have suggested, sending this horror story to your local media, including Seattle media. I would also look into contacting the FTC as they deal with large scale fraud. And I consider this large scale fraud when I read Airbnbâs propaganda telling us 'Hosts, you have absolutely nothing to worry about! We stand behind you 1000% with a $1 MILLION host guarantee! Should anything go wrong, weâll cover it."
Well, they donât cover it AT ALL. And thatâs a fraudulent business practice - on a grand scale. You might also look into contacting your Attorney Generalâs office.
Iâm not sure about the details of the agreement weâre under with them but Iâm sure it prohibits suing them. But you may want to contact a lawyer and see if thereâs a loophole for a case like this that would allow a lawsuit.
You are right. The damage deposit is useless as is the âinsuranceâ I learned the hard way
Do you still happen to have the emails to the people you CCd?
So true Jon, insurance commissioners office cant do anything because Lloydâs of London underwrites the policy. Media is a good idea, I will look into it and see what I can dig up. Thanks for the response
@JonYork
I do agree this is a similar topic to your original post. My point is, if we are actually going to help unclebrio through this problem, it would be easier as a new topic. The thread is getting interlaced with comments on your situation and unclebrioâs. It gets confusing. I have no argument that the host guarantee is worthless.
The Host Guarantee is not Insurance. No Insurer involved, there is an Insurer involved with the liability
ABB conditions include an Arbitration clauseâŚ
A post was split to a new topic: AIr gives $50 back on $14k of damages
Ironically it is a insurance policy underwritten by Lyoyds of London. The insurance commission did get back to me on it. They do not have jurisdiction over Lyoyds due to them being based in London. They are sending out a letter on out behalf though. Still no response from pre arbitration people at airbnb. Total silence on their part, maybe time to get AAA involved. Anyone know if both parties have to initiate this or just one?
We have been trying to go into pre arbitration but we have had no response for over a week and half. I did take Jons advice and emailed Brian and Paul, not sure what will come of it but it is sent. The insurance commission did send out a very detailed certified letter as well. What a grind over something that should be covered!
Yep. I cant disagree with that. You have a good point.
Yes, and their pitch to new hosts is, you donât have to worry about guests damaging your place because we have a $1 million dollar insurance policy to cover any and all damages.
I did split it⌠didnât you guys see that?
@konacoconutz
I am not seeing the split topic.
I can guess how they may fundthe Host Guarantee, to try and explain it would taken more typing than I want to do.
Lloyds of London is mentioned as being involved in the Liability cover.
As far as the Host Guarantee is concerned the important thing is that it is administered by AirBnB, as seems often the case when you hit a dead end the only option is Arbitration.
That is what it seems like, we have had no response from Airbnb on our arbitration request. In their guidelines it specified that we had to do a pre arbitration before we went off to AAA.
