I have 3 rooms; one room has a private bathroom and the other 2 share one. I have been using bidet attachments in my private home now for a few years now; it’s awesome of course and it is a much cleaner solution to the problem of poo. However, when I installed them, they were considered ‘boutique’ and not widely understood. I left the airbnb bathrooms the old fashioned way.
Do you all think that we have reached the ‘tipping point’ for bidet use? That people will understand them enough to not ‘experiment’ with the controls and leave a puddle of water on the opposite wall due to unfamiliarity? Do people see this as a ‘perk’ or will they just ignore?
Addendum: for those who are unfamiliar with a bidet, of course I will still provide TP. And when you use a bidet, you use TP to dry off - but it is a minuscule amount of TP compared to ‘dry wiping’.
I don’t think so. You will have to explain to your guests how to use it, especially American guests. I don’t think having it will gain you more guests. Finally, I think people will play with it and make a mess.
Well if so it’s about time. I don’t think I’ve ever even seen one in America whereas they are perfectly normal and common in every other country I’ve ever been to. They are certainly a lot cleaner and more hygienic than the American way of post-poo cleanup.
I get a lot of guests from Europe so I would install them given the choice.
When I was a kid we used to play at being dentists with ours (you know, the bidet playing the part of that thing you spit into) and I don’t think we ever messed up the floor. But that was a long time ago … maybe they are squirtier now.
I don’t think this is a good time to spend any money on Airbnb accommodations. I recommend that you wait out the pandemic and then evaluate tourism, Airbnb, and financial matters.
I really want a japanese toilet, but I wouldn’t get a bidet attachment unless it was part of the toilet. That said, those toilets are really expensive, and I wouldn’t want a guest using mine if I had one… Another thing, I don’t think it would cause people to use less paper. I personally want it and expect it to work that way for myself, but I think others would still consume tons of paper regardless.
Rolf, only you know what your finances are and whether you want to fork out. The fact that you posted about this seems to indicate that your finances can take it.
As I said before I’m a great believer in bidets being more hygienic than the scrape method used here.
Another point to consider is that I understand that for a lot of elderly, infirm or obese people, the paper method can be difficult to achieve due to mobility problems. (I’m trying, and probably failing, to be delicate here).
I was going to do an “aging in place” bathroom remodel which is, for obvious reasons, on hold indefinitely. But a bidet, bidet- toilet, and or elevated toilet were all suggested to me by professionals. For people with a more limited budget an elevated seat with bidet attachment would be an option.
The more you think about it (not that a dirty bottom is a nice thing to think about!) the more it makes sense for when you’re old. Or if you have a temporary disability or infirmity.
