Good point, it occurred to me that while we are a group that would be sympathetic, others might think “good riddance”!!
One night booking for a big house on Halloween night? Come on.
Apparently, they were also suspicious because of that, but the girl told them that several family members needed to escape the smoke from the wildfire in Sonoma County because they had asthma, which led them to finally accept the booking request for the 4-bedroom (not party-house!) rental. She flat-out lied to them.
But one can publish that on their Twitter account. They HATE negative stuff on their social media.
It’s just speculation as to why the account was deactivated. Most likely a combination of what I listed so they wouldn’t have to be responsible.
Air sent a generic email saying violation of the Security section of the community standards, but there are several sub-sections (extortion? privacy?). I don’t believe any sections are applicable, but maybe Air is stretching charging them as extortion (it was listed in house rules though), maybe privacy but the nest doorbell camera was disclosed in listing. Who knows.
We too asked airbnb how to mitigate people using the house for unintended purposes and they said we could charge whatever we wanted. Also removed instant booking, sent a pretty inquisitive first response to any inquires, resend a house rule reminder with the welcome message the day before check in. We thought we were covered. People will lie and lie to get around rules. I hope you never have to deal with an experience like that again and GOOD LUCK if you do.
