If hosts cannot see the “5 star rating” in each category, why do we do them? The only thing we have to go on is the host comments, and to be honest, most of them are not very forthcoming.
Are you asking this as a guest?
I agree. I am so jealous of @moniek and others who can see guests star ratings!!! I admit I am guilty of generic comments - I use a pretty standard comment in almost all of my reviews, unless something was particularly bad (or great) about a guest. But I DO mark down on things such as cleanliness, etc. What good does that do if we as hosts can’t see that? Boo
No - i’m a host. Just like to have more information before we confirm bookings
What’s up with that? Why can some hosts see these ratings and others cannot?
I’m not sure, but I think it’s because Airbnb rolls out some features slowly, and/or on a beta test. That’s just a guess tho.
Hosts on instant book can see it. Are you all on instant book?
That is not an accurate statement. I am on IB and I do not see the stars.
It’s exactly what the app told me…
The words on my screen were ‘congratulations as a host on instant book you can see the star rating of your guest.’ So I guess take it up with Airbnb for the inaccurate claims !
I am on Instant Book and I also don’t see the guests’ star ratings.
If you’re on IB it would seem a bit pointless to see that information AFTER the booking has been made. Makes more sense to let hosts who are not on IB to see them so they can make an educated decision.
That will be the carrot. Remember if you are on IB, you have an “out” with “not comfortable with this guest.” Kind of devilishly brilliant.
It’s to convince hosts to go on IB. I.e ‘Don’t worry you can see how a guest is rated - if you don’t like it you can cancel’. It’s a good way to lull any concerns hosts might have.
Guests not on IB don’t need the information as one assumes they talk to their guests before making a decision…well… that’s what Airbnb would say.
Hi @Zandra, I am on instant book, and I don’t see it either I’ve checked my desktop, and my phone app (android). Maybe its app based info? Do you have an iPhone?
I do have an iPhone. I’ve been able to see it a very long time now (months and months) it’s not a new function for me…to be honest I don’t know why some can see it and others can’t.
Yes, the “carrot” is right. And then at some point Air will turn off the ability to revert back to non-IB and limit the ability to say you are “uncomfortable.”
Bingo! We have a winner!
I think this attitude is misguided for several reasons. Please don’t take me wrong, I’m not aiming to criticise you personally!
For the first couple of years of hosting I was rigorous in ‘screening’ guests, asking them questions if their profile wasn’t complete etc etc. I still got crappy guests. In fact, I began to realise that those who cheerfully assure me that they are clean and respectful are amongst the most likely to stain my linens. And those smiley friendly profile photos often translate, in reality, to bad-tempered and monosyllabic guests. The nice middle-aged lady with several great reviews came with a friend who was the guest from hell. The guy with the seriously off-putting profile photo and minimal English was the warmest, loveliest person I have met in a very long time. I could go on and on.
Point is: unless the initial contact is seriously off (hey we wanna party in your place yeah! or I have serious allergies and I expect that you will replace all soft furnishings with leather beaten by Buddhist monks at least a week prior to my arrival) then you really NEVER know what you’re actually going to get.
So, in my opinion, an ‘educated decision’ is really a self-delusion. I do get it, though! Like I said, I had the same approach for ages. I went on IB when it was first introduced (August 2014?) and hardly anybody used it. Now, all my guests use it, absolutely all of them. They are just the same kind of guests, no better or worse than before.
Finally, on topic (!), I have a different attitude about guest ratings. These are people PAYING to stay at your place. You’re not doing them a bloody favour by allowing them to stay! It’s a business transaction and they are customers, essentially, so let’s not kid ourselves. It cannot ever be an equal playing ground on ratings. Also, frankly, there seem to be so many hosts who expect guests to tiptoe around their self-proclaimed beautiful amazing places and whisper in hushed awed tones at the wondrous offerings they have been granted. OK, I’ve overdone it now! Anyway, my thoughts fwiw.
Hey! is there a third party system for rating guests? So, before or after they stay we can check them out since AirBnB dont give us much?
