3 misconceptions about hosting I learned this summer

100% agree! We’ve found that offering small touches is a part of what motivates someone to leave a good review in the first place. We’ve never outright asked for reviews, but instead focus our energy on providing a space for our guests to make great memories and it’s worked well so far! And ‘small touches’ don’t all need to be financial too.

In our Austin, TX rental we let guests know ahead of time that the two most popular BBQ joints in town (that have lines 2-3 hours long) will actually accept advance orders (something most visitors don’t know). And in our SoCal place (in wine country) we’ve worked with a few wineries to offer small discounts on tastings and bottle purchases, if guests choose to visit those particular wineries. We complement these with local chocolates, cheese, etc. but not everything needs to cost a host money, you just need to get creative!
