Your opinion on a honest host review

Spark you are clearing not reading…I was asking how others would review, as stated earlier, hosts reviews have come in to question. I wouldn’t mention being messy in my review, I would be giving them a rating out of 5. Some people are messy, some are not. Whether you would ask for advice or not is not my concern, it was my post and “I” was asking for advice. It seems to me that you cherry pick comments and take them out of context. I am neither annoyed or upset, nor is my blood boiling, just looking for advice. I have rec’d yours, now I hope you are done.

Why are you even considering a “less than 5” rating for something that does not cause damage or create extra work? That’s my issue. You appear to want to punish them for being messy – even if the mess creates no damage and a negligible less than five minutes work.

Overly strict reviews are seen by the public as unfair, and that’s bad for the brand, and anything that’s bad for the brand is bad for all hosts.

I was asking for an opinion, you still don’t get it! I wanted to know what others thought of how to review. If you are a slob, give them a 5. If you are perfect in every way, give them a 5!
You go! Yey for Sparky!!! Learned so much from you…thanks for coming out.

I DO get it!

You wouldn’t be asking for an opinion if you didn’t see it as a possible issue.

It’s like asking “Should the fact my guests slept in the beds be something I warn other hosts about.”

Spark. I am actually, now, done with this, move on to something else. You want more and more argumentative correspondence about this, and I’m done.

I read this as asking for validation. Not gonna happen here.

There is by the way no such thing as ‘too much input’ here; you will get replies sometimes for YEARS from the thousands of forum members.

I see quite a large gap between being annoyed and making someone’s blood boil. I don’t want to split hairs but maybe this could be also some language barrier issue or even regional use of certain language.

We have plenty of guests who are able to leave a perfectly clean mirror behind while others seem to empty their toothpaste tube onto the mirror.

Mentioning toothpaste splatters along with an overall mess that these guests apparently left behind just paints a better picture in my opinion and doesn’t necessarily mean that the host cannot handle additional mirror cleaning.

Just a matter of perspective and hence the host’s question I assume.

So here’s an analogy to what the OP was asking that it seems many here have misconstrued.

Let’s say you order an item online. You notice that it has a small stain on it somewhere, or some sort of flaw. Maybe it’s a different color than what you ordered. It’s not a big deal, it doesn’t affect the function of the item, or the aesthetics, maybe you even like the wrong color they sent. It’s not something that really upsets you and it’s not worth the hassle of sending it back.

But when you go to review that item, are you going to give it a 5/5?

Apples and oranges:

  • not shipping the same specs… failure to meet obligations
  • leaving untidy room/suite that does not create any extra work… not a failure to meet obligations

Your analogy is false equivalence
