Is tipping of Hosts usual where you live? It hardly ever happens in Australia, even in hotels and restaurants (good minimum wages) but I always do it when visiting US because folks rely on tips for a living and it is the done thing.

I am in the United States, but very rarely have guests leave a tip. (Unless you count pocket change left around the space, haha) This guest was just happy that she could extend her stay due to inclement weather and didn’t have to find other accommodations last minute.

I reluctantly went above and beyond for my Valentine weekend guest. The fellow had four large bouquets plus rose petals delivered to my house and phoned to ask me to set out the bouquets in a certain order and to sprinkle the petals on the bed.
We’re a camping listing in the woods, so it meant an extra 2 km walk for me, carrying stupid flowers and timing it so they wouldn’t freeze, but it was doable so I did it.
No thanks, lots of extra cleanup – not unexpected. I found 25 cents left on the shelf, though, and muttered, “That better not be a tip.”
Just FYI for you other camping hosts who have never strewn petals on your guest bed, ground-in rose petal stains do come out with a bit of oxi-clean. Around 25 cents worth, maybe?

Let’s say Airbnb cancels a guest reservation last minute NYE against host’s policies because of some fake excuse. Now you have your most expensive nights of the year vacant and can possibly lose $10k.
It’s Friday night NYE weekend and you need a last minute booking. Then a new guest tries to book your empty nights, but they haven’t uploaded their ID or their CC doesn’t go through. Airbnb gives the guest 24 hours to rectify ID or pay issues. Often the guest gives up and disappears and stops responding.
But during this time (grace period for guest), no other guest can book!!! And CS is helpless to help unblock your calendar. If this happens on a Friday night to stay same night, you are screwed! The entire town could be full in a blizzard with desperate guests broken down/stuck and willing to pay whatever and your listing will not be shown and you will lose thousands. I’ve seen it happen.
