What is the weirdest thing guests have left in your rental?

You guys are amazing with the weird stuff you’ve found in your rentals. It makes my guests seem pretty normal, although I always appreciate finding forgotten bottles of booze in the apartments.

Soooo boring…nothing exciting left in our rental. One very very gross bamboo pillow that I used gloves to move to the garbage. A vape thingy, that looked like a dildo. Oily body imprints on my really nice 100% cotton sheets, that took numerous washings to remove. Nothing exciting here!

One guest left a stun gun.

This didn’t happen to me, but to another host- a pile of dead squirrels in the yard and shell casings all over the kitchen table.

Evil! What kind of person gets joy out of killing innocent souls? So sick, makes me want to vomit. Poor host, having to clean that up, hope she penalized them in their review and mentioned that they were squirrel serial killers.

She had said she reported him to Airbnb, with photos, and it took a couple of weeks, but Airbnb did delete his whole account, he got banned from the platform.

IMHO That’s not enough. I hope he burns in Hell!

One of the most unsettling discoveries, this jar contained what appeared to be human teeth. Needless to say, it was promptly discarded.

An 18 carat gold and diamond ring made by a leading Australian jeweller worth $18 000.
They lost it, team found it and not even a Thank you!
Damn lucky the team is honest!

Guest asked if I’d found a tongue scraper. Had to look it up, didn’t have a clue what it was, and never found it.
What? They probably cost $4 and why would they care?

These stories are so bizarre. If anyone ever doubts how hard Airbnb hosts work check this conversation. It’s so funny when some people think it’s ‘easy money’.

I once read a post from a guest who was complaining that the Airbnb he booked said it provided shampoo, but there wasn’t any. He said he was a poor student (who can somehow afford an Airbnb, but not a bottle of shampoo). He actually called Airbnb about it and they sent him $10.

I’ve never bought a $10 bottle of shampoo in my life.

Not necessarily “weird” but something strange to me -

A Bogg bag.

For those (like me) who don’t know, its a $100 plastic/rubbery tote bag.

My husband found it and nearly threw it out. He put it in a garage and mentioned to me that someone left a weird shopping bag.

a few days later, I get an email from a guest looking for it. There was no way I was mailing it back as I didn’t have a box large enough for it.

It was important enough, he asked if we could hide it outside somewhere and he would pick it up next time he was in the area.

My best guess is he took it on the guy’s trip, “lost” it and the wife was mad!

I wouldn’t be inclined to forget about a $100 item, either, and would want it back.

I had to Google it. Amazing that they are $100. Not my cup of tea at any price though.

When we were kids, whenever we were leaving a hotel or self-catering rental, my mum used to organise a hunt-the-whatever once we thought everything was packed. This was searching under beds, behind curtains, in the depths of closets, in every drawer - all for stuff we might otherwise leave behind.

Therefore, I’m really good at leaving nothing in rentals. Himself has left an umbrella and a phone charger, but me - not a thing. :innocent:

The aforementioned himself once went on a business trip with my black-leather-Tumi-cost-a-fortune-like-$400-years-ago weekender. And brought it back scratched and scruffy.

Mad does not even begin to describe what I was like!

It really doesn’t take that long to check around where you are staying or before getting off public transport to make sure you haven’t left anything. It’s more a matter of being a person who has attention to detail and is organized.

Years ago I had a boyfriend I was travelling around Mexico with, travelling on buses and staying in hotels. He was constantly trying to rush me out of places when it was time to leave, because I would take a few minutes to make sure I had everything. He, on the other hand, left things behind everywhere we went, often expensive stuff he was quite distressed about losing, but still didn’t change his ways.

By contrast, I once took a trip with my then 10 year old granddaughter, where we stayed at many different places, and travelled by air and buses. She is a very organized, detail-oriented person, never left anything behind, even a toothbrush, and her stuff was always neatly packed and organized. She only forgot one thing, which was actually my favorite hoodie- she had been cold on the plane and I offered it to her, she took it off at one point after she warmed up, and I guess it slid down on the side of the seat. She felt terrible about it and kept apologizing later when I realized she hadn’t given it back to me or grabbed it herself.
