"The cat was the best part"

I have 2 cats in my house. I rent a room in the house and advise on the advert that there are 2 cats. I also have a picture of them. Some people have booked as they like cats. I have a cleaner who comes weekly and also clean as much as I can but there will always be pet hair. The airbnb room is normally closed but have had guests opening the door for the cats, one of them especially loves attention. The other cat is quite shy so keeps herself to herself. It is good to have it in the listing but people can be picky with their complaints.

My cat gets more reviews then me! :joy: Sheā€™s clearly listed for my place and guests love her. She greets them at the door and makes them feel at home. I include her photo in the listing as well. Never had a problem!

Help! Will you come to stay please? And the weather is fantastic too!

Unlike his sister, Jasper Cat, 11 weeks old, has not been socialised. I can only stroke him if he is curled up in the laundry basket with Lady Florence. He gets jealous of her I think, but thatā€™s it. As for getting meds down him, greased lightening up the curtains.

omg, i have 2 cats in my own house and my best friend is dyson animal. I vacuum like every 2 days, since itā€™s so easy, like mopping. i also have a Roomba, which tha cats totally hate, but it doesnt do the job as efficiently as the ā€œanimalā€

i pet cats wherever i go - if they let me. of course in places like greece and turkey i gave them food first and talk to them. never had an incident, whereas here, in the us, one of my friends, a nurse, got bitten by a friendā€™s cat, because the nurse tried to pet her while the cat was eating. big mistake. You never pet a cat (and a turkish van mix for that matter) while she is eating. Long story short, the nurseā€™s hand swell and the two ladies are not friends anymore, which is a pity.

my ā€˜attractionā€™ is the wild but very sweet guide dog pup who lives with me. Sometimes they have to go to kennels for check-ups etc and my guests are often disappointed.

I cruise around on AirBnB a good bit and happened to notice a listing one day that, in the owner/host bio, said they were avid pet lovers and had two dogs and were active in rescue. However, when I checked, the listing said ā€œPets not allowed.ā€ It is pretty strange to love animals so much but not allow them in your place.
Allowing pets has been one of the honors of hosting an AirBnB. Giving conscientious caring folk a place to stay with ALL of their family had been a great gift. Animals donā€™t make any more mess than children ā€“ usually less.
I look for places that have cats when I travel so wonā€™t miss my own so much.

Iā€™ve just taken a booking from two splendidly polite Italian couples living in London.

They are coming especially to see the kittens!!! One is a professional photographer and has asked if he can take pics. As if Iā€™d say noā€¦

Meanwhile, reality check; I am up to my armpits in poo and harsh chemicals; both have a tummy upset, not that youā€™d know it. Both took a leap at an open window but thankfully caught by guests this morning.

Catfinder, if those hosts are fostering rescues and trying to address behavior issues/socialization, etc., not allowing guest pets may be a safety precaution. So donā€™t beat them up too much haha!

No, they werenā€™t fostering ā€“ they had two dogs that, if I remember correctly, were in their photo. I have done a TON of fostering and rescue and that was one of the things I was honored to do with my property ā€“ allow pets. Iā€™m sure it is different at beach or vacation property but any of the folk who brought their pets with them to Winston Salem, were good pet owners who just wanted to bring the rest of their family along.
I had a few issues, very minor ā€“ I had a runner in the front room and, when cleaning, flipped it over ā€“ little spot there. A couple of yorkies had just stayed. Cleaned, no issues. Recently, a vet and her partner stayed with a Bull Mastiff and couple of bulldogs. There was a small tear in the upholstery on a chaise lounge, looked like a big toenail might have done it ā€“ nothing that canā€™t be fixed with a bit of iron on patch (from the inside, yes).
And, once I had a BIG problem ā€“ but the owner called and me immediately and said she would pay ā€“ and she promptly sent me a check for all $442 dollars as soon as I had a receipt for her. Her smaller dogs tore the bottoms off of my cellular blinds at the front of the house. The whole bottom 12 inches, at least. Unfortunately, they were custom sized blinds; thatā€™s why they were so expensive. She didnā€™t bat an eye when I told her the cost.
So, my ā€œanimal peopleā€ experiences have been good.
In fact, I found animals made less mess than children.

Most avid pet lovers have their own. They may not appreciate visiting petsā€¦

Absolutely true! My cats would be in therapy if I allowed dogs or other cats in my house.

True dat. My female Bedlington will not tolerate another dog in ā€œherā€ yard. She weighs 15 lbs and I have seen her beat the heck out of dogs twice her weight. I adopted her 5 years ago because she was not getting along with the ā€œpackā€ at my breeders, as well as escaping over their 5 ft fence like Spiderman. She is 15 years old, mostly deaf and partly blind, so training at this point would be difficult. In this situation, I feel the risk of injury is too great to let my dogs and visiting dogs ā€œwork it out.ā€
