The Apartment Busy Body Goes Feral!

Good suggestion in a perfect world but it would give her more of a chance to ramp up her “Gladys Cravitz”. She would probably enter the unit freely while guests are in there. It would in her mind, give her free rein to berate and harass the guests.

I nearly stood up and cheered then!

Install the cameras. Document the evidence. Then file a restraining order. Easy to support your case if you have video evidence.

I like the camera idea. I wouldn’t worry too much about bad reviews. You can always respond to them. Besides, at this point they are hypothetical. You say you need the income. You need to make some hard choices. Presumably there are two of you that host. Why not have your partner return to LA since that seemed to be a deterrent to your neighbor’s behavior?

If you had read @Wendy_Darling posts you would have seen that her partners father is unfortunately seriously ill too.

Gday Wendy, what about installing fire door closers - they make it impossible to slam a door. They are required on all external doors in Aus

general feeling is that the doors aren’t actually being slammed, and even if all doors were removed, the neighbour would still kick up a stink over summing

I just popped in to say that this sounds like a pretty good suggestion. Assuming you can find anyone who is willing to do it, of course.

Just popping in again to say that from the sound of this person, it does not sound like this would be a good move. You don’t want a crazy person as co-host. (I’m using crazy loosely. She might not be literally unhinged. Maybe she has some kind of grudge, or is jealous, or something.) Also, you’d be rewarding someone for their borderline abusive behavior. Maybe it’s not borderline, either.

sounds like its reached a them or you situation - time to sell up and look for a detached property to rent out - sadly as you are not even in the country they are taking advantage -

I think you should either stop doing Airbnb on these two places and rent them out long term - or sell/ if your renting hand back the properties - you have reached an impasse

Your encounter makes me very glad I don’t live in an apartment. I have a crazy across the street neighbor who doesn’t believe anyone should be able to park on the street around his house except for him even though it’s all completely legal. He chases people off if they try to park in front of his home. When guests park in front of my home, he doesn’t like them anywhere near his driveway even though there is plenty of room to back out so he was leaving notes on cars. Yesterday he threatened to assault my new long-term guest who just arrived a few days ago. Luckily with my case, harassment/threatening assault is illegal so I have documented it with police and informed the guest he can suggest the neighbor call police to report his car if something is wrong. We and the police know the vehicles are legally parked in front of my house but crazy nut job does not. He has never confronted me about it and I won’t confront him because I know there are some screws loose and do not know what will push him over the edge. So far he also doesn’t know Airbnb is to blame. Hopefully we both get relief soon.
