Well, that doesn’t seem practical to me. In some houses, 72 might feel way too cold, while 68 might feel hot.

Hi, Texas here where the sun tries to kill us for a solid four months out of the year.
I’ve given up trying to control what temperature guests set. However, I do make a request in various locations (House Rules, welcome note, posted instructions) that when they leave the apartment they turn the thermostat up so that the AC is not continually on while no one is even in the space. When I hear the compressor running and I know that they’ve gone out I use my phone to move the temperature setting up to what I think is reasonable. It’s a small space: it’ll cool down in about 30 seconds when they get back.
I also ask them to turn the HVAC completely off when they check out.
Compliance on these two requests is about 75%
