STR Permit - ATX

Im in the process of getting a STR permit for an AirbnB unit… I was thinking though, for a unit that only rents out periodically (less than 10 guests a year), how does the city enforce these permits or rather, code violations for units with no permit? Does it make more sense for properties with higher volumes/occupancy rates?

Is it only in the event of a neighbor complaint, a guest issue, or when something goes to court?

Im a rule follower but surely not everyone gets a permit - can anyone enlighten me?

In our city, AirBnb submits the Occupancy taxes directly to the city. So if you are operating without a permit, your unit is flagged for not having a permit and can be fined by the city. In addition to the permit we also need a land use license.

What city? This is an international forum :slight_smile:

yikes, sorry! I was being a bit narrowminded.

ATX = Austin, TX USA

AirBnB remits taxes for us… so I guess the city would flag any property that paid taxes yet didn’t have a permit.
