SMH over a potential guest and their infant at our "not suitable for under five" home

It sounds like you are looking at the stats as listed for Superhost. Acceptance rate is not a criteria for Superhost.

The “target” for Acceptance rate is 88%, and some hosts have said their Acceptance rate fell as low as 70%, and while they got a warning from Airbnb about it, nothing actually happened.

No, your Acceptance rate has nothing to do with being a homeshare host. Your acceptance rate will be lowered with every decline.

BTW, I am also a homeshare host and host for much the same reasons you do, not exclusively for the $ at all. Senior single woman. But I have been hosting since 2016 and have never declined a request. If their request is inappropriate to my listing, I explain why and ask them to withdraw the request so they can look for a more suitable listing, otherwise, if they haven’t provided enough information, I ask them to do so, which has always ellicited better communication, and I have accepted several guests who had no reviews who were all lovely guests.

OK but where would I see my acceptance rate? It’s not in stats or superhost status?
Anyway… no warnings so far and everything seems fine!

I don’t know because I don’t care about it. Here’s an article about it

https://www.airbnb.com/resources/hosting-homes/a/understanding-response-rate-and-acceptance-rate-86

My problem with this request was that the guest knew I thought our home was unsafe for her family, but decided I was wrong. Basis their response to my decline, they weren’t worried about what I was worried about and would not have retracted their request.

Yes, I realize there are guests who won’t retract their request. I’ve had one guest do that, and I called Airbnb, told them the guest had said they did not meet my booking criteria but was ignoring my asking them to withdraw the request. CS told me to let the request expire, and they would make sure it didn’t affect my response or acceptance rates, and it didn’t.

Well, it used to be under Performance and Listing basics. I hadn’t looked for it for a long time, as I’ve not declined any requests, and I see it is gone now. I clicked on a bunch of stuff under Performance, trying to find the “Basic stats” as Airbnb buries stuff under layers of clicks, but I can’t find it anywhere. So they have either eliminated it, or it’s hidden somewhere. And all the Airbnb articles about it seem to be from 2018.

It may only be available to see now if you use Professional hosting Tools.

@JJD do you know where to find Acceptance rate? You seem to be well versed in where Airbnb moves and hides things.

EULiz, you sound just like me! I love people and have had fantastic company this year with such interesting guests.
