Is this noise with your door shut and the neighbors’ doors shut?
They most likely are the “never say no” types. It’s pretty common now it seems.
With all doors shut unfortunately.
Baby, toddler, and dog noise travel through doors and walls regardless. It just slightly muffles the sound, which annoys me even more because I know it’s going to be twice as bad once I do remove my earplugs and go outside or else open some windows.
Do you have a quiet hours listed in your house rules? I have one from 10pm-7am, which matches our local quiet ordinance for the outside. He reminds of the person who cuts you off on the road and then flips you off - on some real level they know they are dead wrong but are trying to save some of their pride.
I do now! I didn’t have quiet hours listed at the time, I just assumed 11.45 would universally be considered ‘late’ and 6.30am ‘early’. Apparently you have to spell these things out
We have quiet hours listed (10 pm to 7 am) and also state that if any noise can be heard outside the rental (at any time of day) then it’s too loud. We are a super-quiet location and several apartments have residents who work from home. Because we’re in a tourist destination several people (residents or guests) like to relax in the sun outside so loud music or blaring TVs aren’t acceptable at any time of day.
Here is my final draft. Thanks to everyone who helped me out!
"Maryana and her husband are very pleasant people. They communicated very well and left the space tidy. Their son is a very bright, energetic 2 year-old. I enjoyed playing with him but his very frequent, loud crying was a challenge. Renting an apartment in someone’s home may not be the best choice for them during this time. However, for other types of rentals I would recommend them very highly. "
That sounds good, but is nicer than I might be.
They were a nice family but I wish they had brought a pacifier!

So totally agree. My ad clearly states ‘no children’, so I was stunned to open the door one evening to guests who said ‘I hope you don’t mind but my sister and her 2 kids decided to come along too’. Being relatively new to AirBnb at the time, I didn’t know what to do, and allowed them in. They then had the nerve to ask ‘do you have another bedroom for us to use?’. I was silently furious, but stated calmly that there was only one bedroom, and I was concerned that children had arrived without my approval or knowledge. I then went over my brief requirements for guests, but the kids ran amok in the house, made noise, and helped themselves to my fridge. I saw them off early in the morning (they wanted a late check out), only to then find used nappies in the bin in the bathroom. They also complained to ME that there was another bedroom they could have used! (I do have other bedrooms but they are for private use only, and I certainly wasn’t going to give a room to them). So that means they had the nerve to go through my other rooms! Never again! I am now more specific in my ad, and I am perfectly happy with my no children decision.
Ahhh…the infamous guest line that starts off with “I hope you don’t mind” - which translates to “I know I am being rude but I am too selfish to care.”
Even better-
"you don’t mind, do you?"
amazing.
