Yes just because older generations watch TV more than younger generations - most of whom don’t watch TV at all doesn’t mean all baby boomers sit at home all day mindlessly watching daytime TV @Rolf

There are demographics within demographics. My oldest daughter used to be embarrassed about her hippie family, and always chose friends in high school who were from “straight” families. The parents of these kids used to seem like they were from my parents’ generation, even though they were my age. I used to wonder how they seemed to have totally missed the 60’s.

Most of my boomer friends were the types who were going to love-ins, rock concerts, and backpacking around the world. That’s the boomer demographic I am most familar with and the ones who don’t watch TV.

Boomer here, grew up with TV. Then sometime in my mid-20’s I gave it up. I did have one for a couple years 10 years ago and gave it up.
Didn’t have a TV in my former rental or in this one. I figure now people are so locked onto their phones and computers they don’t need it.
I get all I need from my computer, movies, PBS.
I do have to say if people are referencing culture from TV or American movies, I don’t know what they’re talking about.

although it’s not widely recongised, there’s Boomer 1 and Boomer 2. Boomer 1 are the actually post-war baby boom generation, and they spawned genX, boomer 2 spawned the millennials.
roughly speaking of course. when you talk in generalisations you always get someone saying “oh but I’m not like that” and of course, that’s true. there are always exceptions, outliers and miscellaneous. Some of you being the exception doesn’t disprove the generalisation.

And if your offspring spanned 10 years, as mine do, we spawned both GenXers and millennials.

ah but i have a theory for that. your spawns are GenX, cos you raised them and they were influenced by their older siblings. generally :grinning:

Well, I can attest to the fact that my youngest has many of the common millennial attitudes that are annoying to deal with, even though she was raised in the same household with 2 older sisters. There wasn’t any widespread internet when any of them were young, but only the youngest was an older teenager and young adult, i.e. developing attitudes and behaviors they would take into adulthood, that was texting and engaging in social media at that age. Which was a huge influence. Much more self-absorbed, much more unable to accept criticism, much more prone to blaming others or outside influences for anything that goes wrong in their life.

I assume airbnb has the facility to make a refund to a guest, which I would suggest the host determines based on their opportunity loss, and then issues the appropriate instructions to airbnb.

This could be accompanied by a carefully and politely worded note to the guest explaining that without accepting any liability or obligation to do so, you have decided to make an ex-gratis/goodwill basis payment to them , You might also mention in general terms the losses that you have suffered due to having to make other arrangements at short notice (I wouldn’t put a $ value on these). This message would need some “word-smithing” to ensure that you come across as a reasonable person and not high handed . I work extensively with solicitors and would probably ask one of my solicitor mates to cast their eyes over my note, and I would keep as a template for further such occurrences. I am by nature very cautious with these matters as I have been embroiled in a lot of litigation due the nature of my work.

A well worded note may actually earn you brownie points with the guest, rather than simply antagonising them. Of course if the villa has gone out for the entire period at full rates then you may chose to make a payment which in quantum is the same value as a full refund.

I may new to airbnb but I am a very experienced landlord (as a side business) and appreciate the value in good tenant/guest relationships. Over the years I have got a lot of return business/referrals to friends from former tenants, and so in my view this one does need sensitive handling in order to preserve the relationship.

Of course you can always have a problem guest, but most people are reasonable if handled decently.
