The review section has a new look in the stars section. Does it look like this for everyone or is this an experiment?
Don’t see it that way but the look did change. Now I have to click on the persons overall to get the subcatagory rating. Takes up less space at a glance. Later I’ltry to screen shot and post
Mine have changed but not like this. Have to “click” for detail and it’s more pictorial.
This is on listings here and in other countries so it must be by viewer (me) not by listing. I don’t much understand the point of the little graphs if they kick people off with low scores. On big desktop they all look the same. Note: this is only on desktop, not the app.
I have been getting the new look for a little while, even on the app.
I have the new look on the desktop but not the app.
On the desktop, I went in and did a search for some dates in my neighborhood (covertly like a stranger - not signed in and in a browser I’ve never signed into before, so no cookies/history/etc). I looked at my listings and my neighbor’s listings and the new look isn’t consistent. It is mostly the new look but some listings don’t have the new look. And some listings have the new look on some date searches but not on others. Not sure if it’s glitchy or if they are trying something out and gathering data.
A side-effect I noticed was that some people have slashed prices. People with cleanliness/accuracy/communication ratings that looked like 5-stars but are now showing as 4.6 stars. I didn’t find anyone who had more than 4.9 for value and most everyone had no more than 4.9 for location - confirming a lot of beliefs about those two ratings ,)
With the fickleness of reviews, I think I don’t really like the new system. It seems to give mistakes made on reviews, vindictive reviews and uninformed reviews more weight than they had before by exposing the exact number. Hmm. But clearly Airbnb did not ask if I would like it ,)
When I search for my listing in a private browsing mode, mine looks like that, but I don’t really remember what it looked like before.
Other listings nearby me with 3 or more reviews are the same, except Plus listings.
Ahem, 4.8 on cleanliness? I’m mortified for you. Here I follow your wisdom, I strap a flashlight to my head and vacuum cleaner, I lint roll sheets as I take them off an put them on only to realize my mentor has only a 4.8 in cleanliness.
Lol, just goes to show you can please some of the people some of the time…
RR
LOL. That’s not my listing, that’s a place I was looking at in Albuquerque. Note it only has 43 reviews. I assure you I’d be mortified too if I had a 4.8 on cleanliness.
Aww. I think that’s meant as a compliment, that’s how I’ll take it anyway.
Here are my current ratings:
Just goes to show hosts aren’t better at close reading than guests.
Those are the best ratings in the galaxy.
Thanks. There’s a lot of luck involved. I saw a listing today that was a straight up 5 but they only had 4 reviews. I would be curious to find a place with better ratings and a lot of reviews and and study it to see if I could find anything to improve. I think other than move my house and change out all my neighbors, I can’t.
This was on the view as a guest and I didn’t have to click anything. Are you looking there or at your dashboard progress tab?
I’d be pretty surprised if you don’t have the best ratings in the entire Air family given your volume. The fake review folks start with 5s across the board, but then reality bites and they sag. Or even regular folks who don’t have the interpersonal skills, cleaning skills or CONSISTENCY you’ve attained. Sure luck is part of it, too, it always is.
Okay, no one in El Paso has more reviews than I do, even though there are some hosts here longer than I. But there are several 4.97 and I see at least one 4.98 here. That’s just in my town. I’ve been saying this for years the rentals in El Paso are fantastic. The prices are low and the places are nice. And I’m going to speculate and say that we push each other to be better. If the competition is averaging 4.8 something you can’t slack it. I dare say an area with multiple 4.2s (like Lone Star’s) people feel that’s the standard and they perform to that standard.
Somewhere there’s a 4.99 with over 300 (real) reviews.
Whoah, I went back to look at a couple of the same listings again and now they all show without the numeric values next to the stars. Typical Airbnb inconsistency.
Not at my computer. Did you switch devices or browsers?
At least one
Yeah, they show without now. If you do the “preview my listing” it will show with the numbers, but if searching “as a guest”, it is just stars again.
Since they changed the Reviews page, I notice there’s no where to see the breakdown of the stars given for anything other than “overall”. I wonder if their solution may be for us to see those numbers by “preview your listing”.
Same device, same browser, same incognito mode.
