My first over stay guest

Whelp, finally had that day when I unlocked the front door 3 hours after the cleaners were supposed to be there for the final walk through. to find a guest still there.

The cleaners called my cohost, who hadn’t gotten around to calling me yet, because he was still trying to get ahold of the guest.

Apparently the guest thought he booked 4 nights, but only booked, and paid for, 3. My cohost worked it out, but it meant we had a turnover, which needless to say, we haven’t had in a year.

So today we show up and they have every linen in the house in the dryer, like that was going to work. Took wet linens home. Put on backups. Added to “do not rent list”…

Yes that is a host nightmare. Glad you are working it out.

I’m just curious which platform did the guest use? Airbnb? BDC? VRBO? Direct?

Most our guests are VRBO or direct. This one was VRBO.

We tend to have an older clientele, and I remember back in the day you would book the nights you were staying, rather than the checkout date when booking hotels online. That was decades ago and depended on the hotel. I think today we’ve pretty much standardized on the checkin to checkout dates, but perhaps this guy hadn’t booked in awhile…

But that with the wet linens, just no, I’m not dealing with this again.
