ah the ole’ mistaken… trick. I had a door stopper disappear- I looked long and hard for one necessary to keep the back door open and the guest said her mother thought it was hers and packed it…? (who brings a door stopper on a summer holiday?) and yes I did the ole I can’t find… forgot that trick… … it holds them accountable but does it in a way they can’t refute…
Maybe mom had dementia? I read a post from a host who looked at her cameras to see if the guests were in the process of checking out on check-out morning. She saw grandma carrying one of her good cooking pots out to the car and contacted them. Turned out grandma had some dementia and had taken a bunch of the household stuff out to the car. The guests put everything back and apologized.
Of course, they could have been BSing, there’s no way to know.
I use Tervis insulated mugs and glasses for most of my drinkware. They do not sweat so no worries about rings on furniture etc. I also have some heavy ceramic coffee cups available just in case they prefer them.
It doesn’t show up on their review but it prevents them from booking my place again which would have been a third visit. I think it also prevents them from Instant Booking, unless that’s changed.
I was really annoyed, not because I had to buy new ones, but because they were all purchased as souvenlrs when I traveled. They were old but had memories attached to them. Lesson learned, I no longer place items that are dear to me at the Airbnb house. On her second review I mentioned the towels.
Me- I travel with a wedge shaped rubber door stop as a security thing……who knows who has acces to your room / accommodation when you are resident. Just makes me feel a little more secure
I’d ask them where they left them. I’ve several times hunted until I finally found glasses they put somewhere that made sense to them.
Anything that is of value or is not replaceable should not be in an STR.
Het over it and move on.
