I’ve been a long time member but in the last couple of years, my account doesn’t seem to be showing me many new posts. Is this because people are not posting as much or has functionality changed?

I’ve been here for a bunch of years but am no longer hosting. And, you’re right, many fewer people posting for quite some time.

I’m hoping it is because new members do their due diligence and take a look through all the replies here over the years.

I noticed that almost every question recently has been more technical while in the past they were very broad with questions about decor, etc.

Funny when I started my first one in AZ 2015, I knew nothing about this site, I winged it and it worked out well.
The rental in my house but separate and I engaged with renters. Think Airbnb and who they attracted was different before Covid.

@Lynick4442 I don’t think there is anything wrong with your account- there just isn’t a lot of posting going on here. We lost Jackie, KKC isn’t hosting anymore, so seldom weighs in, a lot of the old regulars also seem not to be engaged much here anymore, or have disappeared, and there aren’t many new forum members.

I still follow, but don’t post much anymore. It got tiresome to answer the same questions over and over. Covid killed a lot of the activity here, and then here in my part of Florida we have several years of really bad weather knock the crap out of the tourist industry…

I just checked, and I’ve been on here 7.5 years. I’ve learned a lot from the other members, and I am certain I’m a better host because of all I’ve learned from the other forum members.

I miss Jacquo, and KKC, and some other frequent forum posters. I’m not on here as much because : 1. I’m not actively hosting at this time due to concentrating on standing up against the current regime 2. I don’t have as many questions about hosting 3. Participation as a whole on the forum seems to have dropped off, so there is not as much to respond to

There are some lovely people who host, and share their experience here, and I will always be grateful this resource was here when I began my hosting journey.

These charts may be of interest.

The 30 days reference in the last chart just means if a recent poster hasn’t posted in the last 30 days they can’t be deemed to have left the forum yet.

These don’t account for people who have never posted (or never even signed up) but still could be actively viewing the forum.

That is interesting to see. That huge spike in the last graph of 30 day inactivity in early 2020 would seem to coordinate with when Covid became a major issue. People too busy figuring out how to deal with their rental, and how not to die of Covid, running around stocking up on toilet paper, masks and hand sanitizer, spending their time online keeping up with the latest news?

Just to clarify the “30 day inactivity” figure.
The chart is of the number of people who posted for the very last time and never came back.
The 30 days really just applies to the last month, someone is not deemed to have left (yet) if their last post was less than 30 days ago.

??? Sorry, but that doesn’t clarify anything for me.

First you said “Last two charts are based on posts over a 30 day period, if someone’s last post was more than 30 days ago then they are deemed to have “left”.”

Now you say it means they left and never came back.

So I’m confused.

If that huge spike in early 2020 means they never came back, it could mean that Covid caused them to stop hosting, and they never started again, therefore wouldn’t be participating in hosting forums.

Sorry, I’ll correct my original post, I should have been clearer on the significance of the 30 days in the chart heading.
The key thing is that the last chart is of people who never posted again, so yes, it looks like a lot of people stopped hosting during Covid.

Thanks for the info! It confirms my impression of the activity of the forum. It was in a very active phase during the time I joined and activity fell off greatly after COVID.
