Leave out towels or tell them to ask?

I provide one face towel and one bath towel by guest. I change towels every three nights. Usually guests have only used one of the towels. It allows me to have a sneak peek at the apartment and see if guests need a friendly reminder about house rules.

I also provide make-up wipes, but I do quite often find make-up on the towels. Honestly I really don’t care, stains have always vanished at the first wash. I really don’t get how so many hosts struggle with make-up stains, I don’t do anything special

Interesting - I have a face cloth right here on the table with big lip marks - like the person applied their lipstick and then dabbed their lips. Hasn’t come off yet… what do you use? I also have lost towels with big pink streaks. Mascara has come right out, as has face-make-up, but not lipstick.

I’m the same. Sometimes I have to soak them for a while but it’s no problem.

But I never understand why people use so many towels. Some people might think this is gross but I use one bath towel per week. After a shower, I’m wiping clean water from a clean body so why can’t that towel be used again?

Hang it to dry and it’s good for the next day. I think it’s environmentally friendly but am I weird?

I have them available to use stored in the bathroom cupboard. So far out of my 9 guests only 1 has used them. Every other person has used their own.

My guest who stayed 17 nights just left today. He did not use any towels… Or… (Wait for it!!! )Toilet paper! I think he brought his own!

I change my own towel twice a week because I like my towel to have a fresh laundry smell :). I agree it’s not eco-friendly, just like I keep washing clean clothes. My washer does use little water and energy though.

@dcmooney, I use an eco-friendly laundry liquid and I add a tablet of an hydrogen peroxide whitener (much like oxiclean but mine is a store brand), really nothing special. What may make a difference is that my washer has extra long wash cycles unless I use the express cycle, it takes between 3 to 4 hours to complete a cotton cycle, towels have time to soak I think.

I put many towels in a closet . I feel bad to limit people, not that it does not irritate me to see how some guests go through 4 towels a day each.

I personally use two towels, one for my head and another for my body, so to have only one towel available would seem penurious and cheap. I provide white bath towels, and black washcloths. Kirsty_Jane - yes, Costco does have great towels, and it would be worth it to stock up. It is a membership store, so just find someone with a membership on your trip. There are also many great deals to be found at TJMaxx, Homegoods or Marshalls here in the states.

Get darker towels on Amazon basics- most guests I get are Men who don’t wear makeup.

How about just leaving rolled toíwels in a basket in the bathroom and they can help themselves if towels are needed.
