They want to be a hotel site.
Generic house rules - they want to approve any outliers…? What does that mean? they dont like - the listing gets shut down?
" For most of the last decade, a guest landing on your Airbnb listing was reading your words, scanning your photos, and forming a human impression of your property. After Airbnb’s May 20 Summer Release, that interaction is increasingly mediated by an Airbnb AI sitting between your listing and the guest — choosing what to highlight, answering questions in your stead, and comparing your home against the one next door on criteria the algorithm picked."
We’re planning on selling up next year anyway. Not because we’re angry with Airbnb (I’ve learned how to avoid the landmines). We’ve done well with Airbnb since 2008, when we were amongst the very first listings in our patch. Now theres more than a hundred thousand others. And I helped build that. Didn’t get anything for it, but I wasn’t in it for the money.
We’re just getting old and it’s getting to be too much work. Some of that burden is indeed elevated in the extra work required to mitigate the risks of Airbnb involvement in the relationship with guests. But if they’re going to be fully taking over that relationship, then there’s little point in continuing.
So we’ve blocked everything past our 2027 bookings (we are currently booked into February 2027!). We’ll miss it, but it will be a relief.
Good luck with becoming solely a bot product, Mr. Chesky. It’s been fun, but booking.com is going to be hard to beat in the travel/hotel booking business. Even with bots (note: they have them too. You’re not the first or only one).
Oh, this does not sound good at all. We are very rural and there are several Airbnb listings in my area (we are a birding mecca), so I guess I’ll see how it plays out. The money we earn from our cottage is dedicated for our travels elsewhere, but I may be joining Islacat in retiring my cottage. Time will tell.
In Australia we have had major changes in our tax system in regards to investment in realestate.
Looks like I will be divesting myself over the next 2 years.
I hate AI with an absolute passion and I am terrified of what it is going to do with employment and I resent it being forced on to me and my business!
I absolutely hate this stupid AI that Airbnb has forced on us. It keeps changing my cover photo to other pictures that won’t attract guests the way my original photo did. I can’t stand having my own business manipulated by an AI that just doesn’t get it.
Oh, AI messed up my listing long ago. My title said Urban Oasis and emphasized we were in downtown but had a garden and large green space. So a couple of years ago AirBnB put our listing in the “Countryside” category! So stupid!
This all sounds like they’re trying to get rid of people. What business does that? One that can’t handle their product?
Greedy and arrogant billionnaires who, despite their wealth, count their pennies. Why employ people to deal with your users when you can shift everything to AI? They can’t even relate to us small-time operators, and no, they don’t care how we are impacted. They prefer the big-time operators who generate piles of $ for them in service fees, who they allow to get away with things we would be suspended or delisted for.
