If you made this reservation in Sept. then you got an itinerary at that time or after you fully paid the reservation (see below). It has the address. You can be forgiven for not knowing this if you’ve never used airbnb before, still…it is there so you are asking the host for info you have already been given. This doesn’t excuse the host being rude and if what you say it true, also ignorant about Airbnb. Note: you won’t get the address on the day you reserve, you get it after the 48 hour cancellation grace period ends. So if you looked for it the day you reserved and didn’t ever look for it again, you wouldn’t have realized it’s now visible to you.
Asking for an address is not a bad attitude. Persisting in asking about having mail delivered after you’ve been told no is and that’s exactly how your initial post made it sound.
Now to the issue of the host. If he truly has responded in curt fragment sentences to clear questions after you have booked and paid for the entire reservation (some people only pay half at time of booking) then I see you are off to a bad start. You might consider calling airbnb and voicing your concerns to them. They will also be happy to give you the address. BTW, if you arrive and the host tries to give you an address different than the one on the reservation or the one Airbnb gives you, please contact Airbnb. Don’t go to a different address.
Did you actually read the hosts house rules before booking ? The no mail rule is probably there. It didnt occur to you there might be very good reasons for the host not to accept mail for short term lets, and when it was patiently explained to you by hosts with years of experience you called them dark and paranoid. Then you were politely knocked back and you came gunning for us again. At the end of the day a mail service is just not something that host offers, and you need to accept those boundaries without question and get a mailbox.
It is Ok to ask, but you must be prepared to accept a no, and not rail against it. You might find yourself cancelled without a refund if you deliberately break house rules.
Either I am really confused about your post, or you are really confused about how bill paying works. Why do you need the address of a vacation rental in order to pay a bill? Just write a check and mail it in, ffs. Are you wanting to put it as a return address on your envelope or something? Why wouldn’t you just put your own address?? Your bill company doesn’t need to know where you are at the exact moment that you pay the bill.
why would that be a house rule? If we started listing all the ‘what ifs’ as house rules it would be as long as a CVS receipt lol. “No breaking furniture” “No driving over the lawn”…etc
i’m also one of those hosts who has allowed guests to receive mail at my place.
mainly because i tend to accept longer term stays like folks (mostly younger) who are going to language school, have an internship, have just immigrated or have one of those short work visas that are part of their travel/work adventures around the world.
it’s made sense why such guests would want to receive mail at the house. this mail issue has never come up for short term bookings.
i wonder if i’ve been slightly naive about this, or lucky not to have fraud happen?
or if there are certain kind of bookings where it’s understandable to have this allowance?
all that said, there hasn’t been one guest so far who has received mail that is about paying ongoing bills (that is established before their stay at my place).
