Is a TV needed in a lake cottage?

Hey Lakehouse,

I have a TV myself with only Netflix which seems to be sufficient for my guests. I do live in a capitol so my guests are often out and about but some guests tend to stay in more and use Netflix rather a lot. (I sometimes stumbles upon “recently viewed” and see that some guests really enjoy to binge although they’re on holiday.

I would definitely recommend no cable - TV with netflix.

I’m rather torn here … we don’t provide TVs but that’s because here in Spain night-time is for socialising and guests tend to get into local habits and go out to eat late. Also, we can’t get satellite and there’s no such thing as cable and I don’t think most guests (usually Dutch, French, German and Brits) would want to watch awful Spanish tv …

However, I’m now considering installing TVs just because, although we don’t watch much at home, I do find I like it when I’m a guest! I would supply them with chromecast so people could watch Netflix either on their own subscription or on ours as a guest.

I think Chicagohost is right here - you’re providing people with amenities they would like on vacation rather than educating them in the worth of doing without their beloved screens … unfortunately!

I have one main gripe about TVs - why do they all have to be black?! couldn’t there be some nice pastel ones that fit in with my Mediterranean decor?

There are all kinds of options for hiding the tv behind artwork. A non-careful web search [I know, I am supposed to be a tech-non-savvy] finds this, but I know I have seen lots of options: TV Art Cover Gallery | Frame My TV

They also make cabinets were the TV can be stored in a clamp system inside and then rises out of the cabinet by remote control.

My internet is too slow for Netflix, so tv offerings are very poor.

Hey, Susan, old fogey that I am I also managed to follow your link! (Aren’t we clever?) I realise now that I’ve seen this sort of thing on US sites like Houzz. The trouble is mainly that we don’t have any spare wall space for a TV, it will have to sit on a low cabinet and I think the other options is too classic and too expensive for the cheap, small tv I want to buy.

All I really want is an aqua-coloured TV case … is it too much to ask in this day and age? (actually, white or beige would do …)

I’ve just realised that the (I suppose) fake TVs that Ikea uses in its room sets are white … must check that out!

Now feeling a bit stupid because Amazon has loads … no aqua or pink ones though.
