Irritating guests, what kind of review to leave?

The big thing is what your neighbors think. If enough neighbors complain about guests, rentals are going to start having serious troubles with townships, counties, etc.

Sometimes guests inform of things like this because they want to be sure that they won’t be blamed for causing them. I know hosts are used to guest damaging things and not taking responsibility but it can happen the other way round too - guests get blamed for something a previous occupant did. So seasoned holiday renters will do a quick reccy and say 'we noticed xyx, it’s not a problem for us but wanted to let you know in advance that we did not cause this". I’ve done it myself having been on the sharp end of an unscrupulous holiday let.

Sure, but he sent me this message more than 24 h after their check-in. If there was something suspicious, I guess I would have written to them by then? I’m not surprised about the fact that he wrote, but about the timing.
