Not true. Electric kettles have been common in the US for as long as there have been electric kettles. My former grandmother-in-law in Boston had an ancient one and sheโ€™d be about 130 now.

Itโ€™s also regional - the mid-Atlantic to Northeastern states had kettles as โ€œearly adopters.โ€ We had a Reverware whistling tea kettle that went on the stove. Purchased in 1953, it recently gave up the ghost.

Ooooh recipe, please! I love my chai tea from Trader Joeโ€™s but would prefer to make my own mix. This sounds wonderful. Perhaps a cold brew to make the concentrate to freeze?

at $200 for a kettle, thatโ€™s niceโ€ฆ nope.

Iโ€™ve now spent 20 minutes googling recipesโ€ฆ

I do this all the time. My accent is a messโ€ฆ

Iโ€™ll buy a ticket!

 โ€œOh you silly sausage!โ€

They are much more than a kettle. These are โ€œinstant hot water dispensersโ€.
.
Counter-top options start at only $60. That is a bargain, with good kettles often being $30.

Uh huh. All I need is one more thing on a counter. I do have one of those $30 kettles and it works a treat.

Still nope, but itโ€™s allowed me to procrastinate for quite a while now!

Years ago Dan Rather was discussing being from Texas in his news voice. He immediately flipped into his Texas speak and said something like, โ€œthis is when I talk to familyโ€

Well as long as you have a kettle you are set.

I think I bought my stovetop kettle at a second hand store 40 years ago for a dollar. Still heats up water just fine.

It takes all of about 3 minutes to boil the water for a pot of coffee on my propane stove. People must really love spending money to pay $60-$200 to have boiled water instantly.

No wonder theyโ€™re so upset about a cancelled night they canโ€™t rebook

This is my thread so Iโ€™m going to take the liberty to close it before it goes down the snark drain any further.
