Host replies to reviews that are clearly responding to private feedback

I thought about you when today I was about to buy a pack of Thomas English muffins and the price was $5.36. I refused to buy it but now I lost your recipe for English muffins.

Wow, things really are expensive in Hawaii. Here’s the recipe I use. I like it a lot. By the way, I cook them in a cast iron pan. Let me know what you think. They freeze beautifully.

I recently had a guest who left a completely ridiculous review. I really badly wanted to respond and disagree with them. Thanks to the cooler heads on this board I did not do that. And I thank you for your post because it certainly validated my final decision to not respond.

Wow high maintenance, I find that so rude. I only drink espresso coffee so when I stay anywhere in the world that doesn’t have it I make a lovely morning trip to the closest cafe and start my day with an adventure. Imagine me expressing my concern to a host that they only have instant or plunger coffee!

It may show that to you but to many travellers its a real turn off. I stopped staying at hotels that responded to every review on Trip Advisor and would be reluctant to stay at an ABB where they did the same. Whilst you may have good intentions, it can easily be perceived as very controlling as others have said and intimidatory to guests wanting to leave true reviews, knowing everything will be responded to and defended. This is a red flag for potential guests. I just really think its unnecessary on ABB too. When I’m looking for properties, I’ve read all your spiel in your listing, I just want to see the gusts comments in the reviews.

@Emily Yeah but Airbnbs are not hotels or actual b&b’s therefore won’t be on TA so it’s different. For most guests it’s the price & location that draws them to a host so I don’t think writing something simple like thank you for your review is going to put anyone off.
